and at this time, i would like to invite our state senator, scott weiner, up to say a few words. [applause] >> thank you, madam mayor. having served with the mayor and colleagues on the board of supervisors, and now in a new role, working with our strong state/city partnership, it is just amazing to see her deep commitment to residents of public housing in the city and county of san francisco. for far too long we have -- this city almost forgot about the people who were living in public housing, often in terrible conditions, and that was never acceptable. and this mayor has been playing such a key role in turning that around, and making clear that public housing is critically important for so many families in this city. but it is also part of the future because we need to do more than just rebuild. we need to expand. we need to make sure everyone has a place to live in our great city, and that we are taking care and supporting all of our residents in all parts of the city. so it's a real honor to represent san francisco and sacramento in the legislature, and working hand in glove

it was great to have supervisors gordon mar and norman he there, as well as state senator scott weiner. nancy mcpherson, the state director of aarp california travelled up from los angeles. we were quite honoured to have all of those people speaking. this month's membership meeting had quite a lot on it, beginning with the office on aging. and we had some updates. we had an incredible presentation on intergenerational programming with the ucsf memory of aging centre and friends of the elderly. also turned peterson from sequoyah living. the presentation was enlightening. it was quite moving at times and very positive. really good stuff going on there. we also have had brett from the local census efforts and we will have him back again in the early spring before the census begins, with a very important, and then finally, we also continued our process for developing our annual budget advocacy ask that started in august with brainstorming where we solicited ideas, areas of funding from members, and then begin to winnow that down. we did some discussion of the meeting and followed that with

(applause). >> thank you, madam mayor. the mayor walked in high heels to school. if the mayor can walk in heals, we can walk in flats. good morning. raise your hand if you walked to school today. that is great. how about if you rode a scooter? how about a skateboard? one. you know, we need to make it easier for people for kids to walk or ride their bike or take a scooter to get to school. it is not safe enough now. there are a lot of parts, not just in san francisco but all-around the state where there aren't sidewalks or crosswalks and people have to get across the street or walk in away that is not safe. we are trying to make it easier. we want people to walk. it is healthy to walk, ride a bicycle. it is better than riding in a car. we need to make it easier and safer for kids and grownups to do that. i want to thank walk san francisco and the san francisco bicycle coalition and the great organizations who work every day to make it safer to walk and bike and get around san francisco
