so with that, thank you to my colleague scott wiener. i also like to thank my colleagues that came to the bayview, at the town hall meeting a couple of days ago. it is the city family that is going to help us move forward. i specifically want to thank the mayor. this is the man that is unabashed about his support. he is with us 100% of the way. his walk and talk are in unison. i hear him downtown at the chamber of commerce and when he is making presentations to the community. it is consistent, thoughtful, compassionate, and it is real. it is a real talk. he mentioned honoring some of the promises that were made in the past. now here is the day. it is coming. and we will usher in, collectively, as a community. we have in business leaders here to help us guide through this transformation from point a to point b, and beyond. so with that, this is a positive day. we will continue to take this momentum and move forward and continue to build. she is part of that young talent and i get to work with, as well as scott wiener.rd of supervisors have been working with me these past seven months, and we are trying to get a lot of things delivered. not a lot of political stance. getting stuff done. fulfiling old promises. promises that you heard decades ago. you saw me smiling this morning as i embraced this man, freddie carter. he is part of the construction team here. freddie was certified when i was the director of the human rights commission. he had a joint venture. it was a small firm, and they had to get some beer projects, and i remember, you went out and bought yourself a red truck. do you still have that truck? freddie is part of the kck general contractors team that formed the property bid on the dpw and library bid process. they ultimately won the right to build this. and guess what, he is local, right here in the bayview. that is important to me, personally, it is important to the city. that is why the library director works so hard with dpw, our human rights commission, to do it right. this is the

"i am not in town while we do -- while we are in recess, but i am here in spirit. the sooner that we recognize in a brace the fact that night life is key to the city, policy makers to often viewed this as challenges to deal with, focusing on violence, drunken behavior, and the like. it is one of the things that makes san francisco unique and defines us. without these unique abilities to enjoy ourselves, it would not be san francisco. understanding and embracing this has been a priority for me as a member of the board of supervisors. engaging in the study of the economic impact as an entertainment and lite light industry, this study, which i anticipate will be completed later this year, will be providing a key policy tool. no longer will we be unduly focused on the negative. instead we will see the negative and the positive. i look

we're here with supervisors got scott wiener. he started his first term this january. we are going to get to know him and talk about the issues facing the city. welcome. thank you for joining us today. tell us about your background, where you grew up, went to school, and what kind of jobs to have had. >> i grew up in the philadelphia area, in new jersey. i went to school up and down the east coast. i went to undergrad at duke university. i went to law school at harvard. after clerking for a judge, i came out here in 1997. i have been here for the last 14 years. i have always lived in the castro. i am an attorney. i started out in private practice. i settle private law firm during complex commercial litigation. in 2002, and moved over to the sentences the city attorney's office where i worked on the trial team doing trials for the city, handling my own cases, and supervising a team of attorneys as well. >> why did you choose to live in san francisco? >> i always assumed i would go back to the philadelphia area since that is where my family is. i was always interested in

but we're also pleased to have two other members of san francisco leadership with us, supervisor scott wiener from district 8, who has a great interest in uni. would you like to say a word or two? sueprvisor weiner: i really want to congratulate the mta board for making an inspired choice your. another has been discussion in the press as to whether he wants someone who has experience running a transit agency, but i think it is important to keep in mind mta is not just about muni. muni is the 800-pound gorilla. but it also encompasses the taxi system, the roads, and, of course, muni. need someone who has the vision to integrate all of that and have a great global transportation system in san francisco. i have worked with him for a long time, back to when i was the president of my neighborhood association and we were planning in our first parts project in the castro. i cannot think of a better, more dedicated public servant, someone who truly gets the big picture. i am so excited about the selection. ed, congratulations. i really look forward to working together.
