the storms came in hard and fast and scott williams is tracking where they are right now. scott?> yeah, right now, lucy and iain the worst of the system is down the shore. still looking at very heavy rain as well as gusty winds. the rain came down in buckets across our area. take look at the satellite/radar that nasty line of showers and thunderstorms kind of plowed through the area with gusty winds in excess of 60 miles per hour. we're in the clear right now around the philadelphia area but once again some of that heavier rain continues at this hour down around the barnegat area, atlantic city and then pushing off of cape may the heaviest of the rain. however, right behind that system, we still have a flood concern around the philadelphia area. we'll talk about that in a moment but as we move down the shore you can see around cape may also, lewes rehoboth beach still looking at very heavy rain and perhaps a little bit of hail out of that system, and then you can see we're drying out behind this and tomorrow looks much improved but take a look. we still have that flash flood warn

chief meteorologist scott williams is in the weather center. so scott what can we expect tonight. >> right now iain and lucy looking at the heaviest of the rainfall down the shore. take a look at the satellite/radar and you can see those thunderstorm clouds just growing right now in places like atlantic city as well as burlington and ocean counties as we zoom in a little closer, take a look at the downpours right now along the ac expressway. the garden state parkway as well as some imbedded lightning. so atlantic city right now getting hit with very heavy rain that's moving toward the brigantine area, galloway you can see highway 30 here the ac expressway heavy downpours as well as lightning. then we'll move up the road here and you can see around barnegat light, long beach forked river looking at lightning as well as some very heavy rainfall. that rain has prompted some flood advisories not only for atlantic county but for sections of cumberland county as well as a sliver of salem and also gloucester county until 8:30 respectively and 9:30 ther

chief meteorologist scott williams is sweating it out in old city tonight. scott, the relief sooner or later? >> well, it's going to be little bit of both. we'll have some humidity relief as early as friday but it looks like 90-degree or better temperatures are going to stick around for quiet sometime. in fact, right now in old city, it feels like the upper 90s when you factor in that humidity. let's talk about the temperatures as well as the danger. that heat and humidity is making for a dangerous scenario in combination across the area. we still have the excessive heat warnings in effect for the urbanized areas along the i-95 corridor for feels like temperatures approaching the triple digits. rye now it's 91 degrees in philadelphia. but it feels like 98 degrees when you factor in that humidity. we'll go county by county. into degrees right now in reading. it's 90 in west chester and chester county. it's 88 in bear, delaware. we have 94 degrees in camden and look at the temperatures right now in medford lakes. 94 degrees. 95 in woodland. 91 in trenton. but y

let's get right over to chief meteorologist scott williams. he's tracking these storms tonight. ht, good evening iain and dawn. right now we continue to follow some heavy rainfall in particular for burlington county as well as ocean county. thankfully nothing severe. but all of this activity along and out ahead of a cool front that will drop the humidity but not so much the temperatures in the days ahead. we'll zoom in a little closer right now and you can see drying out around bensalem over to trenton but we're still looking at that heavy rainfall as you move a little farther to the east. philadelphia right now mt. laurel drying out as well as around the chester area. but that heavy rain continues once again mainly south and east of the i-95 corridor. so we'll put a tracker on

let's check in with chief meteorologist scott williams. >> hi, iain and lucy.eah, the last 24 hours certainly have been kind of damp and dreary across our area, but it looks like several more hours to go of a few leftover showers then we'll turn corner and reduce that humidity headed toward the latter part of the week but look at this morning. those powerful storms blew through the area. waking a lot of folks up a lot of heavy downpours across the area. some locations closing in on 5-inches of rain. but you can see, a little disturbance kind of opinion wheeled through and right now we have some leftover showers on the tail end of this system trying to work their way back down so around bucks county also moving toward parts of chester county, delaware county into new castle county looking at some showers but take look at ultimate doppler and you can really see some of those areas where you see the orange, that's where we saw some very heavy rain. how much? well, around northampton county in plainfield township almost 5-inches. almost 4.5-inches in franklin towns

chief meteorologist scott williams is live outside old city tonight with a first look at the forecast everyone is waiting for. scott? >> that's certainly right. a lot of folks are hitting the roads. a big holiday weekend across our area and a couple of things going for us. number one it's not that hot. it's not that humid. so that's pretty good. it can be kind of stifling this time of year and also it doesn't look like it will ab complete wash out for the upcoming holiday weekend. as we look at what's happening on the satellite/radar right now, still a little damp kind of drearies especially south and east of the philadelphia area down the shore they've seen most of the rainfall today. so we'll zoom in a little closer and you can see most of the heavier showers even thunderstorms we saw earlier in the day that activity has moved offshore. but still a few leftover pocks of sprinkles mainly south and east. temperatures down the shore right now look at wildwood, cape may, 70 degrees. we have upper 60s. so it is a little cool, brigantine as well as upper. but right now it's 75 degrees so

chief meteorologist scott williams is in the weather center. n we expect tonight. >> right now iain and lucy looking at the heaviest of the rainfall down the shore. take a look at the satellite/radar and you can see those thunderstorm clouds just growing right now in places like atlantic city as well as burlington and ocean counties as we zoom in a little closer, take a look at the downpours right now along the ac expressway. the garden state parkway as well as some imbedded lightning. so atlantic city right now getting hit with very heavy rain

chief meteorologist scott williams here now with a lot to talk about. scott. >> that's right, iain and lucy. just kind of warm, muggy unsettled tropical across our area. we saw a lot of heavy rain in south jersey the first part of the day a few passing showers just several minutes ago around center city. that now moving toward the cherry hill area and also as we move into sections of bucks county right now you can see some showers even thunderstorms continuing to move on out. but take look toward places like pitts grove we saw over 4-inches of rainfall so that's kind of the bulls eye with the system for today. 82 right now but look at the heat index at 88. humidity up there at 76%. so keep the pocket umbrellas handy possible showers as we go hour by hour. then heavy rainfall likely moves in overnight and then again tomorrow. the timing of all of that and when we'll catch a break coming up with the seven day forecast. back to you. >> talk to you soon, scott. to a developing story now in north philadelphia. a fatal shooting this morning has investigators s

fox 29's chief meteorologist scott williams is outside our old city studios. all right, scott what you got? >> well, lucy and iain right now we have a few pop up downpours on ultimate doppler. not everyone is going to see that rain but as we show you what's happening right now, you can see it's raining pretty heavily especially in northeast philadelphia and also as you move in a little closer around palmyra area, moving toward cinnaminson there and also approaching cherry hill. watching out for some very heavy rain. it's not really moving a whole lot. it's just going sit there and rain itself out. so we could have a flood advisory issued in that area. otherwise, right now it's 85 degrees. humidity at 55%. it feels like 88 degrees. so today is actually going to be the coolest day of the week. believe it or not. it's 81 right now wilmington. 86 in allentown. upper 70s down the shore but look at the dew points. last week dew points were in the 40s and 50s a few low 70s showing up on the map so that tells you how the humidity will start to build over the next sever

chief meteorologist scott williams outside in old city tonight. scott, even after a little after 6:00 not much relief out there. >> that's right. iain and lucy, still pretty hot stepping outdoors. and because of the heat and the humidity that dangerous combination already for tomorrow another excessive heat warning. let's talk a little bit about that danger as we look what's happening right now. you can see the urbanized areas right along the i-95 corridor for tomorrow that excessive heat warning will mean dangerous conditions. it's going to feel close to 100 degrees again tomorrow. the high today in philadelphia 93 degrees. above the average right now at 6:00 it's 90 but it still feels like nick degrees when you factor in that humidity. we're not the only ones sweating it out its out. looking alt reading 90 degrees. 90 in west chester. moving into parts of south jersey upper 80s low 90'ss right now in camden, trenton it's hot 92 degrees. 92 in medford lakes as well. but how your body reacts it feels like 99 degrees right now in wrightstown. it fee

fox 29's chief meteorologist scott williams here with a weekend preview. should you looking so far?> well, we are going to expect a few more clouds than sunshine tomorrow as well as some of those spotty showers. but chris and dawn, get ready for the hottest weekend so far this summer. a big area of high pressure building off to the south. that dome of high pressure will act as heat pump building in that humidity, the triple h's hazy, hot and humid more much of the upcoming weekend n fact by sunday the national weather service has already issued a heat advisory. so the humidity builds this weekend a few showers around for your saturday. not a wash out and then that heat advisory sunday making it the second heat way ahead with several days with temperatures at or above 90 degrees. so right now pretty quite a few showers well off to the west. however, as we move toward the overnight, you can see and then saturday morning this is 8am we're looking at clouds as well as a few scattered showers dotting the map. by 11:00 o'clock 12:00 p.m. most of the action will be in south jersey or delaw

fox 29's chief meteorologist scott williams live outside our old city studios. scott, we were outside with you earlier. it's like a bowl of soup out there. >> yeah, it really is. i mean we are talking about stifling conditions outdoors right now. temperatures in the mid 90s but it feels closer to the triple digits. folks have been out and about here in old city, of course, dressed appropriately with those short sleeves, loose fitting light colored clothing and also water bottles handy. let's take look at the numbers right now. you can see it's 94 in philadelphia. 92 in millville. 91 right now in wilmington. it's even kind of hot down the shore right now. take look at somers point 92 degrees. none in brigantine. but factor in that humidity, how your body reacts, it feels like 101 degrees right now in millville. it feels like 100 in dover and it feels like the upper 90s to near 100 right along the i-95 corridor. so if you are stepping outdoors, of course, we have excessive heat warning in effect for those urbanized areas along the immediate i-95 corridor. heat advi

chief meteorologist scott williams outside our studios in old city tonight. scott, today was a nice day to get out. >> it really was, iain and lucy. you know the heat wave it is officially over. high today's only in the mid 80s. so a couple of degrees actually below average for this time of year. let's talk about the numbers right now f you're stepping outdoors 84 degrees. but look at that humidity. pretty comfortable at 35%. we have a nice breeze winds out of the west at 15 miles per hour. look at the temperatures right now in wildwood. 82 degrees. 82 in wilmington. 79 right now in pottstown and it's 73 in the pocono mountains but take look at those dew points. measure of moisture in the atmosphere. any time it's below 60, it starts to feel really comfortable we have dew points in the 50s right now across the area and look at the humidity right now. a comfortable 34% in philadelphia. 41% in millville and look at the relative humidity right now in lancaster in reading only in the 30s now if you're stepping outdoors very refreshing. it's going to be dry and com

chief meteorologist scott williams joins us now. scott i can imagine pretty pleasant night ahead. >> it really is going to be refreshing, beautiful in wilmington. beautiful in old city. i'll step out of the way and you can see picture perfect conditions as we take a look at christ church as well as the ben franklin bridge. 82 degrees right now. take a look at that humidity. 34%. winds out of the west at 13 miles per hour. so a nice breeze. it's 80 down the shore. 79 in while wood. we're looking at 81 in wilmington. 78 in pottstown and look at the dew points. the measure of moisture in the atmosphere, you can see it's refreshing dew points are in the 50s. so as we look that dew point scale, a couple of days ago, we had the oppressive heat and humidity dew points were in the 70s. but right now it's refreshing right around 50 pleasant dew points in the mid 50s. so if you're stepping outdoors no weather worries whatsoever. temperatures by 11:00 o'clock right around 74 degrees. so over the next couple of days, we keep this pattern it's go
