community, working with the department, working with a lot of the folks who are here today, like sean richard from brothers against guns, and the healing circle with mattie scott. it was an incredible effort and i'm proud of the work we did in the western edition community. our residents and our police officers all want the same thing. they want our city, our families and our communities to be safe. this is our charge as leaders. president obama's task force on 21st century policing recommended that the police departments request investigations of use of force incidents in order to increase transparency and accountability to the communities they serve and we have done that here in san francisco. we continue to follow those recommendations. two years ago i, along with supervisor cohen had a resolution for the department of justice to conduct a thorough independent review of our police department. for me, it was important that we put san francisco on record requesting this review through a formal action of the board of supervisors, but we didn't stop there. at the same time supervisor cohen and
