michael "cowboy mike searles," and specifically the experience of black cowboys and buffalo soldiers.s a writer and editor, cowboy mike continues to tackle both subjects. he wrote a chappter of "black cowboy soldiers." the two also collaborated on black cowboys in the american west, on the range, on the stage and behind the badge." more than a lecture -- that's for sure -- cowboy mike truly brings the west to life as he dispels many of the midst in the midwest. let's give a hearty welcome to cowboy mike. >> it's a pleasure to be here. i have been here for a couple days and had a chance to go to the buck center and to the public library in denver and it was a good experience. i am very pleased to be here at the fort. the title of the presentation is the story of the black cowboy. many of you probably -- some of you may have information or knowledge about black cowboys, but the story of the black cowboys is one that is not well known, and black cowboys, basically not only participated as other cowboys, but they helped to shape some of the traditions. it was to live a life that was solit
