health and human services secretary, kathleen sebelius back on capitol hill today.he is facing tough questions once again about the rollout of the affordable care act just as she calls for an investigation into the botched rollout of healthcare.gov. what investigation is the secretary suggesting? >> well, she has obviously been under a lot of fire for the last two months, dell, because of the bungled rollout of healthcare.gov. she is the responsible party and has been the target of a lot of republican fire, including her home state senator. today she says she has asked the inspector general, the ig in these parts of hhs, to look into how these contractors are acquired, hired to begin with, the management of the rollout performance involved in in getting the website up and running or as the case may be not up and running, and how they are paid. and it may not offer much coverage. ig's are paid to do this. they are supposed to be independent of management. and whether or not secretary sebelius was going to ask the ig do it or not, one presumes the ig was going to look

secretary sebelius said nearly 2 million people have made it through the enrollment process but have not picked a plan. the deadline to sign up for coverage that would start on january 1st is less than two weeks away, though there are other deadlines coming. mike, some republicans are questioning these numbers as you might imagine. >> that's right. there is a question of when you're truly enrolled. that 365,000 number that we heard today is essentially those who have selected a plan. but some republicans say to be an actual subscriber should involve the exchange of money, that you should yyou should hav check. michael bird went after that line questioning and said if they haven't written a check, do they have coverage january 1st? and she said, no, they won't have coverage. some republicans question whether medicaid will ultimately crush state budgets by a surge of people being put on the medicaid rolls. >> did any lawmakers defend the secretary at that hearing? >> there definitely were d democrats who were pushing back against the republican colleagues. and one from illinois says sh

that's what secretary sebelius is hoping to do. she's hoping to look forward and say yes we made a lot of mistakes. she wants to make the case that the program is good, people will get their coverage. in six months or a year from now people will look back bad roll out good program. republicans think the opposite. the speaker said let's get the budget questions out of the way, let's put any ross aspect of a government shutdown out of the way and let's focus on this because that's a winning policy issue and political issue heading in to 2014. republicans will go beyond the website and tell you stories of people who -- remember the president said you can keep your doctor keep your plan they will tell you stories of people losing it. people are fining out they have higher co-pays or higher costs per prescription drugs. a big divide. the key question is are democrats convinced that administration can turn this around because that will turn the volume down a bit. but watch the democrats because some of them are nervous back home and they
