he was transferred back to sedgwick to stand trial.ears earlier he faced a different murder charge, also for allegedly shooting a man at a party. >> nobody ever said i shot or did anything, you know. i guess since they just found out that a gang member was there, you know, they pinned it on me, but i sat in here for a whole year. >> man, he hit the ground, and the lord said, you just spun out of it! >> during that year, dean got to know pastor tina, who predicted what would happen with this case. >> because god sets you free. >> i prayed for him, i laid hands on him, and the spirit of the lord said you will not do the time they're trying to give you. and service went on as usual. he prayed, cried, the whole nine yards and then several months later, he got released. god lead him go. >> i was not knowing if i was ever going home. that case got threw out and i went home. >> if you stand up profess you belong to god, and go out the doors away from god, i guarantee you i'll see you back. because the devil keeps you in bondage. >> after dean

human trafficking is a significant problem in sedgwick county, across the country, but here in sedgwicknty in particular. it has devastating impact on the victims and on our community. in this case, we had a victim that was a minor, 17 years old, a child. you know, we all make mistakes. that's what you're here admitting. none of us are perfect. the fact that somebody makes a mistake doesn't mean you just throw them away, that well, they prostituted one time so a little more prostitution's just not a big deal, or it's less severe. mr. bacon, this is the bottom line. you exploited and pimped a 17-year-old child, you have a significant criminal history and you committed this offense while on post-release supervision. this provides little legitimate options available to the court. due to the fact that this was a limited period of time in which you were found guilty, limited exposure rather than it being days, weeks and months, for that reason i will grant 14 months off the mitigated or 20 months off the standard sentence in this case and impose 100 months in prison. >> in addition to more t

but when there's trouble on the plains, it often gets sorted out downtown at the sedgwick county jail. most of the 1150 men and women incarcerated here are only charged with crimes and are awaiting trial at the resolution of their cases. while the inmate population is usually near or at capacity, the same cannot be said for the staff. >> we have a staff shortage here that we haven't seen before, and now everybody's having to work a ton of overtime. we're really trying to figure out how to combat that problem right now. it's not a glamorous job. lot of folks have no idea what you do in here and the only time they do know something has occurred is because somebody got in trouble. they never know the good stuff that you do every day. >> sheriff jeff easter has dozens of job openings inside the jail. >> we graduated 25 recruits two weeks ago. that was for 67 openings. 67 openings is almost a whole shift. the deputies are strained beyond belief. i'm seeing them go to other jobs, sam's and walmart and those type of things because the pay's a little better, the benefits are a little better.
