seema shah joins us from principal global investors.hat i love is your study of the linkage between equity and debt, the idea of what the stock market is going to do versus what fixed income is going to do. described that linkage right now. seema: you have been talking about that earlier today. the equity market is so strong at the moment. cause for concern that we are not going to get the continued economic surprises which may keep pushing the market up as much as we have seen recently, but it is looking really strong out there. you've got bond yields around the one dollar 50 since level. it just doesn't seem to be lining up. to me, the main fact which is holding bond yields down is still the expectation that the fed is going to stay on hold. but at some point, i think we are all in agreement that bond yields are on their way up this year. it is just the speed at which they are going to move. that is going to be a major impact to markets. jonathan: one thing people are struggling within the bond market is this data doesn't get it done.

seema: we believe in the reopening trade.e think that there is cyclical rotation, and we can see inflationary pressures not just in the u.s., but also europe. on that basis, it is probably still about the value trade. as you point out, europe does have a very significant percentage of value companies, so it is about looking at that european value trade and focusing there. we think for a lot of the big countries, that is where you are going to get most of the big movement. so i think that is where we are looking. beyond that, we would be a bit more cautious. guy: what do you make of the price action in the last 24 hours? equities got hit pretty hard yesterday, but people piled back in today. today we are bouncing back. we have seen a series of these events over the last few weeks. how is it shaping your thinking? seema: i think we should anticipate this kind of movement to continue over the coming months, especially in u.s. equities, which is one of the reason why you want to shift to a bit more stability. i think the reason i

treasuries and mortgages. >> it is weird, seema. we are talking about inflation all the time the numbers are there. i don't know what it is like over there over here, everything is more expensive. every commodity in the world is up in price. yet, bond yields have done nothing, if not move down the last two months. i know they popped late last year is the bond market sending a different message than we keep hearing otherwise? >> it has been an interesting development. as we came into 2021, the view was bond yields higher because of economic growth and rising inflation pressure that happened in the first quarter. what we see now is economic growth in the u.s. is hitting the peak you are seeing the peak acceleration we see a couple of growth disappointments. the rising inflation is down to transitory factors or any factor that should be transitory. the fed has been out in force emphasizing patience that is suppressing any of the potential rise in bond yields. this is the one thing to remember the fed, at some point, will need to unwind
