i do want to get you are on the senate armed services committee.our thoughts about the strikes overnight on the houthi rebels and the fallout from that and your take on that. >> yes. it is a long overdue striking the houthis who are backed by iran. the houthis have been targeting american service members in the middle east region for several months now without any retribution coming from the united states. as well as hughes are targeting other carriers international shipping carriers and it has become a very dangerous situation in the red sea. so, again, these strikes are long overdue but i will remind everyone this is retaliation for strikes against our own people and innocent civilians that are operating shipping carriers and it was an international effort as well so i'm glad the biden administration finally moved on this. so, we'll see what happens next. but, we need to show leadership and we haven't seen that in the past from this administration. >> and you are saying it's long overdue and there are obviously a lot of people in congress that fe

senator dan sullivan, republican from alaska and member of the arms services committee joins me now. nator, how should we respond to these attacks? to this specific attack? should we go after the proxy forces themselves or directly attacking iran? >> well, stuart, i think it's important to go after iran, and it's because they're behind all of these attacks. remember, they fund hamas, they hundred hezbollah, they fund the houthis, they train all of them and what we really need to do is have a much broader strategy of reestablishing deterrence and think about the biden appeasement policy with regard to iran has not worked. the broader context here, the trump administration came in and they did something really hard. they reestablished deterrence. they did that through massive sanctions, against iranian oil & gas regime. they did that against taking out key leaders like soulemani, they pulled out out of the iran nuclear deal but also launched a very important peace initiative, the abraham accords so that was working. by the end of the trump administration, the iranians had about 4 billio
