olatunde served on the senate judiciary committee, sat on judicial nomination hearings, walk us through the nomination process. the president said by the end of february he will make a nomination and then it goes to the senate. what should we expect from the senate process? >> thanks for hosting this event. once the white house has a nominee they sent to the senate, the senate process starts and it is laid out through traditional rules. the first thing that happens is the nominee submits their senate judiciary questionnaire, a long comprehensive form. for the evaluation of the nominee. normally there is no formal rule that the committee gets 28 days to review. you have about a month of time for the committee to review the opinions of the writing, the background of the nominee as well as the nominee to make courtesy visits on and off the judiciary committee. at some point after 28 days, we had a normal hearing process in the recent past. we have precedent for things going quickly for some of these timelines to be truncated but the indication we are seeing from senator durbin, the chair o

the president will be hosting the chairman of the senate judiciary committee, a position that biden himself once held. dick durbin as well as the ranking member, the top republican on the committee, chuck grassley here at the white house. the president wants to consult with them to hear their advice according to the white house and notably as you look at these two individuals, durbin has been a part of seven supreme court confirmation processes. joe biden and chuck grassley go back for decades, of course, when they senator biden was the jarm of the judiciary committee together. biden was the ranking democrat on that committee at one point, so they have a long history there, and i think the key for this process is that the president does want to try to engage democrats and republicans as he said. he said that from the start. he's looking to get outside groups as well and notably dick durbin has said as he's been speaking and reaching out to republicans in the senate, he said that he's come up with a series of names that he's not sharing but a much longer list than he says most americans migh

earlier this congress, i was to see progress in the senate judiciary committee as they move forward on this bill. the committee took action i support, they removed a provision on collective bargaining agreement. just this week i was even more encouraged when the house made further changes to the bill that improved the definition of sexual harassment. while the changes areth importat and significant, it's still not a perfect solution. that's why when i sat down earlier this week majority leader and lead republican sponsor of the bill, my friend from south carolina rate to come to the t floor and ensure the congressional intent of ending arbitration sexual harassment act of 22 is crystal clear. during our meeting, my colleagues agreed with me the bill shall not be the catalyst for destroying pre-disputed arbitration agreement and all employment matters. specifically we agreed harassment or assault claims not be joined to an employment claim without a key nexus. harassment and assault allegations are very serious and should stand on their own. the language of the bill should be narrowly s

deadline to announce his supreme court pick and tomorrow, he'll meet with democrats from the senate judiciary committee what do we know about the president's supreme court search? >> well, we know it's part of the ongoing effort for president biden to consult with various senators as he try to decide who to nominate to the highest court. the -- he has continued having conversations with republican members as well. of course, he has stressed it is very important to him to make sure he's consulting with a bipartisan group of lawmakers and this is really a flurry of activity that we have already seen coming from the white house. we know that president biden has met with the top two members of the senate judiciary committee. we know he has spoken with mitch mcconnell and essentially the vetting really has started. we know that white house officials have reached out and started reaching out to potential candidates to this vacancy. now, keep in mind, the deadline we are still working with is the end of february. this is when president biden has previously said he would like to have a nominee announced and in
