we do not need any more homeless seniors are seniors who are forced to leave our city. thank you. >> thank you. >> good afternoon, supervisors. i'm so glad that this hearing is happening. you know, if we build it, they will come, they are waiting and waiting and waiting. one example i have a is of my upstairs neighbor, elaine, u.s. 77, retired at age 86, she retirement -- received an ellis act notice, and jimmy daley went out searching for housing. she went every day for the first four months across the entire city looking for senior housing that might be affordable, might have an open waitlist. there were none. she called every month for two years, down the list of 47 different places, still no opening, no waitlist noticed that she had missed, and in the end, the stress of not knowing where she would end up because it was imminent, the eviction, it was a matter as she slipped into a coma, her last words to me were, where will i go? and there wasn't anywhere, and she did die. so we need to be sure. this woman worked until she was 77 years old. her income was $1,300 a mo

one thing important to remember is who these senior leaders were. they are world war ii veterans, korea veterans, they are lifers. to a degree i think they see the problems they want to see, of what is happening. and that lends clouds like it does for everybody, that experience clouds how you see things. it must have been unbelievably jarring for those officers to see what was happening, and also to be stuck in a war that was at the point that it was compared to their previous experience. that is kind of hard to get a handle on, i think. there is a sense of failed expectations here more generally, that this is not the experience that i wanted it to be. if you read earlier memoirs like july,"n the fourth of there's an expectation i'm going to fulfill my patriotic duty and become a man, and those expectations are at a time when young draftees and senior leaders are both seeing those expectations not come to realization. fully about the permissiveness of society or problems in american society, how much did the policy of actual withdrawal from vietnam

the number of deaf seniors is really reduced. there are not many deaf seniors in the city anymore. however, there are deaf people who have college degrees unemployed. they don't have jobs. is there a way if they can find jobs? it's very difficult to find jobs in the city. it takes a long time to really make that happen. so many deaf people who live within san francisco, even though they have a college degree, can't afford to live here or stay here. you know, interpreting services is fine, but they're looking for someone who has asl skills for social events. also, for young people who are deaf. so how do you address that? because i'm not seeing a lot of support in that area. i feel that many deaf people may come here. they may move here and think it's a beautiful city, but there's no social opportunities, and they leave. or, you know, there might be an asl student group, college students or people who are learning sign, but they're not really a good match for those deaf individuals who have already grad graduated from cole and have a degree and are looking for a job and social life.
