[laughter] sen. sanders: to hear republicans talk about where we are today without putting it into that context is somewhat of an outrage, but here is another truth. yes, we are better today than we were seven years ago. the reality is that for the last 30 years under republican leadership, under democratic leadership, the middle class of this country has been shrinking and almost all new income and wealth has been going to the top 1%. the reason -- the reason i think our campaign

sen. rubio: well, we are going to modernize our nuclear arsenal when i'm president and we are going to modernize it because china is modernizing theirs and russia is modernizing theirs. because north korea now has nuclear weapons and iran will soon have them. because pakistan and india have nuclear weapons. and, the truth is that the reduction of our military capabilities is actually going to make us more dangerous. if a country ever thinks they can win a nuclear war, they may actually launch one. what kept the world from having a third world war, a nuclear exchange, is that the soviets didn't want to die and neither did we, and neither of us felt we could survive a nuclear war, so neither one of them undertook it. and so, the bottom line is we need to maintain that balance. if a leader or a country thinks they might be able to survive and win a nuclear exchange, it heightens the prospect. we are going to modernize our arsenal and the second thing we are going to deal with is proliferation

[applause] sen. sanders: secretary clinton supported nafta, supported permanent normal trade relations with china. now when we talk about what is going on in this country and why there is so much angst and frustration, it has everything to do with the fact that in minnesota, vermont, all over this country, we have millions of people who are working not one job. they are working two jobs. they are working three jobs. and despite an explosion of technology and worker productivity, their wages are going down. you have mom working. you have debt working. you have kids working. you have marriages that are being stressed because people don't have time to spend together, kids don't get the attention they deserve. we have people, l country, american a worke working the longest hours in the world. and at the end of all that, 58% to thenew income goes top 1%. then -- that's income -- and in terms of wealth, you have the top 1/10 of 1% today owning almost as much wealth as the bottom 90%. 20's wealthiest people

sen. sanders: american democracy billionaires buying elections. scott: among the top republicans -- donald trump has $27 million fueling his presidential bid with 70% of that money coming from the candidate himself. trump's biggest outside money, $1.8 million, comes from the super pac, make america great again. ted cruz has $101 million backing his campaign with nearly $50 million coming from outside groups, including four super pacs that share the same name keep the promise. their biggest donor is listed in "open secrets" as the billionaire wilks brothers, at $15 million, who made a fortune in fracking. >> thank you very much. i appreciated. scott: marco rubio rounds out the top three gop contenders with $77 million in his war chest. $34 million of those dollars are from outside groups. the biggest chunk, $32.9 million, from conservative solutions pac -- its biggest donor is a luxury car dealer in south florida -- braman motorcars. but money alone can't guarantee nomination. just ask jeb

[applause] sen. sanders: you know, it is amazing to me that our republican friends suffer from a very, very serious illness, which seems to be all pervasive among republicans, that is short-term amnesia.
