[applause] sen. sanders: as of today, we won 19 state primaries and caucuses and over 9 million votes. no one can predict the future but i think we have a real shot to win primaries in a number of these states that will be coming up. [applause] sen. sanders: and don't tell sec. clinton because i think she will get nervous, but i think we're going to win here in california. [applause] sen. sanders: and as all of you know -- [crowd chanting "bernie"] senator sanders: as you all know, california has 475 plus delegates. and let me mention something else, i am especially proud that in i believe every primary and caucus, those we won and those we lost, we have received a significant majority of the votes of young people. [applause] sen. sanders: and by the way, one of the things about getting older, the older you get -- well, yeah -- people who are older appear to be younger. that is what it is. we are winning people 45 years of age or younger and what that tells me is that our vision, a vision of social j

[cheering] sen. sanders: let me talk about just a few other differences between the secretary clinton and myself. all of you know that one of the very important things that a president of the united states does is deal with foreign policy and military policy. [cheering] sen. sanders: the most important debate, the most important debate that we have had as a country in the modern history of the united states has been over the war in iraq. i listened in 2002, very closely, very closely to what president bush -- [cheering] i think we do not know. let's hold off. not for sure. but back to 2002. and here is the issue. all of us know that there are no more important issues than the issues of war and peace. i know that as a congressman and a senator. because when you vote for a war, you know that some of the young people in your state who you send off at deployment, you say god bless you, best of luck, you know that some of those young men and women will not come home. and i listened very carefully to what

[booing] sen. sanders: and if you are a young person trying to get a job, having that police record issue.al serious and i happen to believe right marijuana is a schedule one drug, right alongside heroin. that is crazy. [cheers and applause] sen. sanders: and that is why we will take medical marijuana out -- and that is why, if the president, we will take marijuana off that schedule. applause] and when weers: talk about drugs, let me tell you we have a major crisis in this country in terms of opiate addiction and in terms of heroin addiction and substance abuse. to my mind, the most effective way to treat that crisis because people are overdosing every single day and dying, what we have got to do is understand that addiction is a health issue not a criminal issue. applause] that is why wend need a revolution in mental health treatment to in this country. [applause] sen. sanders: this campaign is listening to seniors and disabled veterans and the veterans community in general and what they are telling me is that no senior, no disabled veteran can make it on 10,000 dollars or $11,000 per year social security. republicans want to cut social security benefits. [cheering and applause] think about 150 years ago, in the midst of the abomination of slavery. there were african americans and their allies who were prepared to go to jail to get beaten, to get lynched. who stood up and said, that they will come in this country when and bigotryracism and segregation. [cheering and applause] and over the years, millions of people were engaged in that struggle. think about where we were as a country 100 years ago, not such a long time ago. 100 years ago, women in america did not have the right to vote. they could not get the education or the job they wanted. sen.rassley: they are and they aren't doing it. they're telling us they don't have time. well, it's the government's responsibility to be responsible for the safety of these people, and you wouldn't tolerate it in any other environment, you surely shouldn't tolerate it even for undocumented workers. sharyl: in late 2014, example of what can go wrong. eight illegal immigrant boys and two adults were being forced to live in dirty, unsafe trailers and work 12-hour days at an egg farm in marion, ohio. arthur carp was a neighbor. arthur: you would not live in 'em, i guarantee ya. holes in the wall, holes in the floor, and just filthy -- and work 12-hour days at an egg roaches. filthy. sharyl: it turns out this illegal immigrant from guatemala was part of a human trafficking network preying on the illegal children. the government had released the youths to her after she falsely claimed to be a family friend. she took their paychecks and sent the money to co-conspirators. in all, six plead guilty

sen.rs: louisville, thank you! in case you haven't noticed, there are a lot of people here tonight and i appreciate that. [applause] sen. sanders: this campaign began just about a year ago. and when we began, people were saying, bernie is a nice guy, he combs his hair beautifully. [laughter] sen. sanders: but none the less, he is a fringe candidate. well, well -- all right. well, a lot has happened in the last year. as of today, we have now won 17 primaries and caucuses. [cheers and applause] sen. sanders: we have received some 9 million votes. [cheers and applause] sen. sanders: when we started this campaign, we were 60 points behind secretary clinton in national polls here and a few of the polls actually have us ahead a few points. [cheers and applause] sen. sanders: and i will tell you what is extremely exciting for me, and that is in primary after primary, caucus after caucus, we end up winning the vote of people 45 years of age or younger. sen. king: i have to tell you a story.s ago -- i am a member of a subcommittee of armed services called strategic forces. that is a euphemism for nuclear weapons. two months ago, several of us went out to andrews air force base and got on an airplane i did not know that it existed. it is known as the doomsday plane. the plane that would go up and provide command and control during a nuclear strike. it is pretty sobering to be on that plane and realize what its mission is and then in the and flew outok off came backountry and to washington. in the middle of it, there was an exercise of a mock nuclear strike. an air force officer played the present. here is the point. the thing that hit me almost this really was that in that situation, there is only one person making the decision. there are no checks and came bak to washington. in the middle of it, there was an exercise of a mock balances. there is no congress. there is no vice president. there is no consultation. one person has about 20 minutes to decide the fate of civiliz

sen.: thank you very much, thanks for having me as one of your guests. fernando: thank you, sir. i have been reading about your legislative agenda and several programs that you want to push to empower people. you've made the observation that many people have been left behind over the last few years. what is motivating you, what are you trying to achieve? sen. scott: well, as a kid who grew up in a single parent household, surrounded by poverty, one of the goals i have is to make sure we infuse new resources into some of these distressed communities. my legislation creates an opportunity for private sector folks to reinvest some of their profits into distressed communities and defer paying taxes on a part of that profit. you have to pay taxes on it, but can we defer it long enough for you to reinvest your resources into distressed communities? i think we can achieve that goal bringing billions of dollars , into challenging communities to create opportunities for children just like me, growi

one sen. sanders: i want to congratulate donald trump, who his -- has managed to manipulate the media in an unprecedented way. the republican party and trump have the resources to do all the opposition research that they want on secretary clinton. they don't need bernie sanders's critiques of the secretary. and you want to give hundreds of billions of dollars in tax breaks to donald trump. this man, despite all the scientific evidence, thinks that climate change is a hoax. he is a man that thinks we should not raise the starvation minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. i think no matter who runs against him in the general election, he will be the strong candidate. i know in you should know what trump is trying to do. >> [inaudible] sen. sanders: no, i think that's nonsense. i'm glad he can get through it. what is a campaign about? it's not supposed to just be about political gossip. it's supposed to be about differentiating the points of view the candidates have. secretary clinton and i have differen

sen. in business, you get a return or don't make it. we don't have a capital budget in the federal government. we don't look at investments that way. we look at it as a cash flow decision. that is why we have the debt crisis. scarlet: how should we be looking at it? sen. perdue: first is to put it in perspective and to realize we are in a debt crisis. there is $50 million of new interest. if interest rate went back to the 30 year average, we would be spending 3020 and dollars. i am talking about a perspective how it fits with a global security crisis. it undermines our mission to protect national defense. scarlet: there is a direct link to debt crisis and foreign policy? sen. perdue: no doubt about it. the world is more dangerous on several levels. you have the rise in russia aggression. you have isis. we have the threat of nuclear and cyber warfare. also, the arms rate we are not talking about. scarlet: you have been traveling around meeting heads of state in talking to leaders of differe

sen. tower: we will debate. sen. church: good deal. were highlights from the archives of the church committee hearings. they were looking into the nsa. its director testified before the committee. the bodyxwell, language was so interesting between the chairman and vice chairman, senator church and senator tower. give us a sense of what was going on in that room. one of the central missions of the committee was obtaining material from the executive ranch. the back and forth with -- went work of the end of the the committee. there were a number of instances where the executive ranch dog in it -- executive branch dug in its heels and said you cannot disclose this. in some cases they eventually relented. in some they did not. it was said earlier in the series that john tower had been an active supporter of committee in many earlyrial instances, but that -- that grew weaker and weaker over the course of the committee. as -- i think in the case of john tower -- as a thing that got closer to the

sen. graham: i think trump is onto something.the minimum wage would be bad now for the economy because it is pretty shaky. it is hard to do business. the concept of raising the minimum wage i would put on the table as part of the bigger deal. i would tell any democrat that if you get a yes on raising the minimum wage in a rational and logical way -- i think donald is onto something talking about minimum wage differently. he is onto something saying that it should be ordinary income versus capital gains rates. the goal for the republicans to say that i am for the working man, not just for the rich man -- woman, working woman. i think he is instinctively onto something, trying to broaden the party's appeal to working folks. john: those may be the nicest words you have used about donald trump, at least in my memory. sen. graham: yeah, and you got a long memory. john: what you think about this? mark: it is an indicator of a guy that is just dealing with the reality. if he wins, let's have him win and govern the right way. graham is l

sen. session: thank you. this is very important. i know senator durbin is correct on those points he's made. pain physicians are concerned about this. they know people complaining about pain. many of them have other sources, other doctors giving them pain pills. things such as allowing a position to check -- a physician to check that if other doctors are providing the same relief. do you agree that could be helpful? and does it provide good doctors an opportunity to push back and not overprescribing? >> yeah, i think this is the main goal of drug monitoring programs that are easy to use, that are interoperable across state lines. physicians can have good accurate information about how many prescriptions one of their clients can get. it's a prime part of our strategy. we have seen the work in many states that have implement it. sen. session: dea has great power, it seems to me. you can monitor the number of prescriptions coming from a certain position, can you not? senator, those are state
