we start off this evening with a look at our sentinel radar.an see outside right now we had a little bit of activity northern sections of the city earlier this afternoon, but that has since passed on. you can see what we have left over now. a little bit out in loudoun county, then back down here towards culpeper county. we'll shoot into loudoun county real quick. this is mainly running south of percival, south of leesburg kind of between the two. this is weakening, okay? there's still thunder and light anyone left, but it seems to be -- lightning left, but it seems to be dying out. the bigger storm is in northern sections of culpeper county moving east and northeast and growing. there's a lot of lightning in this tonight and heavy rain. we'll continue i think to watch this move right up into fauquier county up towards marshall, eventually crossing over 66. it will probably make it into loudoun. as we look at this in three dimensional view, the updrafts in this storm, there's a lot of real good updraft energy here. i just looked at this in terms

so let's go to our weather map once again and this is sentinel radar.e also have dealt with some trees and power lines down in some of our neighborhoods. winchester saw that, as did carroll and frederick counties, culpeper 1 inch hail and a little hail earlier this evening that hit rockville. highs today, this played a big factor in all this because we had this really, really moist unstable warm air mass in place. so with that frontal system coming into it the instability in place with that frontal system starting to move through just created a lot of problems in terms of those storms being able to develop. 98 degrees today at national airport, 94 at dulles, 96 at h1n1 thurgood marshall, temperatures 10 -- at bwi their good marshall, temperatures 10 degrees above seasonal average. the jet stream is still well to the north of us. the fronts system will bring us some cooler air in -- frontal system will bring us some cooler air. in we'll still be in the upper 80s and low 9s, however, but the mid-90s -- 90s, however, but the mid-90s are a little in the pas

if you look at sentinel radar, it's the only storm in town and there is nothing to the south of us. there is nothing to the north and there are some thunderstorms lining up to the west and which i expect to move through later on this evening. the strongest part of the storm moves into western, northern- western sections of frederick county until 6:15 p.m.

we'll start you out with sentinel radar and show you where the storms are and not widespread like lastight and we're going to start you out in the northern storms and this is around the fox 5 bug. no, it's in winchester. in thurmont, looks like the wind with it and that is rotating and that is not tornadic. could have gusty winds and heavy rain. others up through pennsylvania showing the signature for hail, and we got some hail signatures out of the northern storms as well. closer in, not much going on and there is this cell here toward the whitewater area and that is moving south-southeast and may have hail in it. we'll watch that, too, and that is out of prince william county and that is going to spotsylvania and everything is in motion. while we have had some activity at the shore, what we have seen here locally and not as widespread as last night and have to keep an isolated chance of storms and with that 91 degrees and warmer still tomorrow and with that 93 degrees for thursday and looks like it will be storm free unless something isolated pops up. friday, 95 degrees and the augus

sentinel radar tonight, scanning rather clean. we aren't finding anything showing up. earlier today we had a couple showers and thunderstorms that developed along interstate 81. they pulsed up there, dropped rain and moved south. we've got a little cloud cover around as a result and, of course, if you didn't see us earlier, we're watching this area that looks like it will develop into a small weak area of low pressure and drift up the coast over the weekend bringing us primarily cooler conditions and some chances for showers over the weekend but not tonight. partly cloudy, comfortable, 68 degrees, a warm day tomorrow, maybe a pop-up thunderstorm in the afternoon, very isolated to spotty, our temperature toasty. you'll notice the 88 degrees with the south wind at 5 to 10 miles an hour. 71 at 8 a.m., by noon up to 83 degrees with sunshine, but noticeable clouds by 5:00 with a temperature of 87 especially from the district south and east as that disturbance from the carolinas starts coming up the coast. it will be warm before we get there, 88 d.c., cooler in the northern

a look at sentinel radar down south and west there's a little shower so you can see just up around hagerstown. that's really no big deal at this point. we'll get closer in here. here's culpeper and fauquier county and spotsylvania county up to prince william county. this is all kind of coming up from the southwest. it's hard a hard time staying together once it's crossed over the mountains there, but it looks like it may try to reenergize a bit farther down to the south and west. you can see it tracking up to northeast, a little lightning in place here, not much, but if it keeps coming on this trajectory, if it holds together, it should at least stay together to bring some rain to prince william county back up maybe as far north as fairfax county. who knows? if it stays together and it's forecast to stay together, could bring rain into the district. overnight tonight there's a chance we could have more showers and maybe even thunderstorms, certainly still possible till this frontal system gets closer to us and tries to push through overnight tonight and early tomorrow morning. otherwise tempe

in terms of what's happening now on sentinel radar, these storms are coming up. there's really one lonesome storm now holding together, but tell you what. it's getting a little bigger. i think we can have more of these moving through scattered about overnight tonight. we zoom in. this is fauquier county coming up from culpeper county. warrenton is right there. they're about to start to get into this storm now and there's very heavy rain. marshall along 245 and warrenton right here and this part of the storm has been weakening a little bit, but still a lot of intense lightning there showing up, but just west of warrenton is the strongest part of the storm where all the significant lightning is. so very loud out there, heavy rain and we know earlier from this evening these thunderstorms are dropping enough rain to cause a little flash flooding. we got to watch that. back out along 81 they had a lot of thunderstorms around earlier this evening and this afternoon. since it's gotten a lot better, but there's still a few scattered showers that way along 81 and back out
