our paula hancocks joins us now with more from seoul, south korea.la, we'll talk about those sanctions. first, north korea launched a nuclear test friday. now south korea is preparing for the worst. what does it believe is the worst, and how will it respond? >> well, i don't think it's come as a surprise to many or anyone that south korea has a plan in place. this has been a threat that north korea has posed to its southern neighbor for many years now. and certainly this year as we've seen kim jong-un, the north korean leader, in a rush to carry out these nuclear tests, missile tests. there's been far more this year than we've seen in previous years than the south koreans are now deciding they need to be more public in saying they have a plan in place. what we've heard from the south korean military on friday, we heard from the jcs that they would target the leadership if they felt that their country was under imminent threat from north korean nuclear weapons. effectively saying kim jong-un himself would be targeted. this isn't the first time they've

for now, though, seoul 27. tokyo, 21. the rainfall there definitely on the cool side. take a look at the extended forecast. tokyo getting up to 26. 27 with partly cloudy to sunny skies heading into sunday. beijing, though, you're going to be looking at cloudy skies heading throughout the weekend. seoul, sunny weather out there for you and taipei, also above average temperatures expected. high of 30. you do have the rainfall out there. all right. let's see what's going on down toward the south. i also want to mention here into i indonesia, we had south of jakarta some severe flooding over the past several days. 20 casualtiy ies reported due t landslide out here. the big reason, it is the dry season. you don't get a lot of rain. a lot of rivers quite low, but over the course of a few hours, we actually had 100 to 200 millimeters of total rainfall reported in this small area and that resulted in some severe flooding. and there's more rain even in the forecast. it is the dry season. this is kind of unusual. something we really want to watch out for, especially for recovery

our paula hancock joins us now with more from seoul, south korea., we are now understanding that south korea is preparing for the worst. what exactly does that mean? what do they consider to be the worst case scenario and how are they planning for it? >> well, rosemary, i think this is a plan that's been in place for some time. it would be very surprising if south korea didn't have a plan of this type. it's interesting that parts of it are becoming publicized now. if they did feel there was a nuclear threat from north korea, they would directly target the leadership. effectively saying to kim jong un would be targeted if they thought there was an absolute danger. now, this is something that they have threatened in the past. this is something when times get particularly tense on the korean peninsula that the military do leap out and make known. also saying, though, that in the worst case scenario there would be strategic missile strikes on particular targets. >> i think this is an ongoing plan that would be updated each time there is another threat,

cnn paula hancock is live in seoul, south korea, with the details on this. what all do we know so far about these three ballistic missiles that were fired by north korea and how long will it likely be before we know the capability of these missiles? >> well, rosemary, we're just getting more information now from the joint chiefs of staff here in seoul. they say they believe that they flew around 1,000 kilometers so that they are assumed to be road on midrange missiles and they believe they were fired into the air defense identification zone so the air zone that japan monitors for its own security and also saying that there was no prior navigational warning for these launches. now, we heard a little earlier from japan's defense minister he said that they have increased their state of vigilance. he is calling for more gathering and analysis of this information. the jcs, though, did condemn what they said is once again a violation of united nations security council resolutions, that north korea is not allowed to use this ballistic technology as per she's resolu
