the first federal superintendent of sequoia national park was colonel charles young. he happened to be the third african-american to graduate from west point. he went on to become the first black colonel in the army. amazing story. i believe he'll be honored sometime later this year by some sort of a national monument at his home in ohio. so, pretty interesting fellow and pretty amazing leadership demonstrated. today our rangers across the country perform modern-day public services, often away from municipalities. so, we're the only game in town at yosemite. we perform search and rescue police, emergency services, medical, even corner duties. closer to home, we have urban [speaker not understood] here in san francisco and at the national mall. so, we have a sprat strong cadre of rangers that help in incident managements, presidential visits, americas cup here, most recently helping with the city and the coast guard and even katrina and the gulf war spill most recently. closer to home the golden gate bridge connects not only our park lands but our communities. since 9/

an suv went out of control on highway 13 in oakland this afternoon headed south, that white toyota sequoia hitting the center divide. when the driver overcorrected, the suv rolled over several times. a female passenger died. four others were sent to the hospital. two are in critical condition. >>> oakland unified is sending in extra help to a troubled middle school plagued by repeated police visits, expulsions, even student- teacher brawls. but kpix 5's kpix 5's da lin found out it may be too little too late. [ yelling and cursing ] >> reporter: a parent gave kpix 5 this cell phone video. it shows a fight between a substitute teacher and a student at alliance academy. surrounded by fences, this is one of the toughest middle schools in east oakland. with only 360 students, ages 10 to 13, already this year 5 expulsions and 13 police visits. a parent calls it -- [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: out of a total of 13 teachers at alliance this year, 10 are new. the turnover rate is much higher here than the district average of 14%. >> this is a high needs school. when i'm here, i feel like i owe t

at toyota they include the corolla, sequoia, tundra, lexus se 430. and with toyota it's a one-two punch. it's really bad timing. toyota is just coming off a recall of 7 million vehicles last year. 8 million between 2009 and 2010. here's the issue with this recall. the passenger air bag can deploy with too much pressure. and let me break down to you what this means. what happens is the pressure causes one plastic part, the inflater, it's casing can actually burst sending pieces flying. now, honda, toyota, nissan and mazda, they all use the same japanese manufacturer. now, the stock in fact is closed down today 9% on this news. no injuries or deaths have been reported, but there have been several crashes. such a wide reaching recall, it can hit confidence. we saw this after toyota's recalls in 2009 and 2010, but it recovered. as for toyota shares that are traded here, they're actually up more than 1%. so not affecting trade today. michael and suzanne. >> going to be interesting to see actually because that company also provides parts for other carmaker
