and so i got to know sergey.ly: what was that like for you being on the front lines at the founding of google? anne: i think sergey and larry, the thing i was most inspired with was they did not start it because they wanted money. they started it because they had the dream of having the world's information on their laptop. i remember at one point they could have sold the company and then be professors and life would've been good, too. they did things in their own way. secondly, i would complain to larry about the health care space and how much i felt like healthcare was dysfunctional. he's like look, you're either part of the solution or part of the problem. that was kind of one of those calls to action. that was very much them. like, if it's bad, fix it. emily: one of the things you learned early on was that sergey was predisposed to parkinson's disease. that became a critical part of the story of 23andme and the way you communicated what you were trying to achieve. anne: the discovery came out right around the

emily: sergey has been a critical part of your story. you're divorced. have two kids and two companies. when there is so much wealth involved, and you go through so much scrutiny, how do you go through a process like that? anne: it's complicated. divorce is never easy. we are very good friends. we see each other almost on a daily basis. we are supportive of each other. it's the new reality for relationship. emily: do you have any advice from this time of your life? anne: you just have to accept that you do the best you can. my mom would call and ask what you doing? i would say, it is 10:00 at night and we are eating ice cream. we just needed ice cream. there are moments when it's hard. you do the best that you can do. part of it is being gentle on yourself. you can't do everything. part of what i think we have done really well, you optimize finding the best in everyone and focus on the friendship. emily: you live in the silicon valley rubble. you seem so normal. how do you stay normal? anne: you stay focused on the things that are important. i volunteer

john kerry left without commenting, and sergey lavrov gave a brief statement that was general in hisontent. all he said was he hoped talks would take place as soon as possible. he didn't say he only said they could take place before the end of the month. it doesn't bode well for the prospects of geneva convening on january 25th. and it looks likely that the geneva talks will be postponed. the sticking point is the question mark over who will represent the syrian opposition at those talks. there was an agreement between certain groups in riyadh last month, who they would send. some of the delegates have been branded as terrorists by the russians and the syrian regime. then the russians put forward an alternative. and the syrian opposition group said if you impose those delegates on us, we'll walk out. the two sides are far apart. it will be for the u.n. to broker agreement between them, because it appears john kerry and sergey lavrov have not brought hem any closer. >> let's bring in the diplomatic editor james bays live in new york. what is your best guess then, will the talks happen
