a somber sergio marchionne walks into his first press conference as the new ceo of fiat in 2004.irman had just passed away. he is wearing a suit and tie and he tells everyone in the room is going to try to save fiat from the brink of bankruptcy. lost $8 billion in the preceding two years. fast-forward to today, 10 years on, look, fiat has bagged chrysler, the company is profitable, marchionne has tripled revenue and his tripled the share price or it is been a pretty good 10 years, it pretty good run, but analysts are skeptical because his new plan for the next five years involves them raising the number of card s that they intend to produce two 7 million, that a 60% more than they are producing now. as for profit, he thinks he can rise fivefold. analysts are a tad skeptical. >> is obvious the a roller coaster ride therefore the stock you are looking at. many investors say marchionne still has a lot to prove. what is he up against? >> everybody agrees he is a good deal maker, he was very good at the turnaround, but how much does he understand about selling cars that people want to

. >> sergio marchionne is the ceo of maserati's parent company, fiat. italian carng an plant today.ore on this, our italian bureau chief joins us. why the factory visit today? what is the symbolism surrounding it? >> it is actually the second time that marchionne has visited this factory near turin in the last two weeks. he has put this on the map, on center stage for his strategy right now. it also involves some complicated labor moves that he is trying to do. as you saw in the package that we just showed, the strategy essentially is to go upscale, produce more luxury models such as maserati, and also alfa romeo. at the same time, he is shifting production around from lance which have lower capacity, which are producing models that aren't selling well, and moving them to these. good, but obviously there is some labor tension. what he is doing is, he has two saturdaytional shifts at this plant. some unions don't like that particularly. he is fighting this strategy on the one hand, trying to convince labor to get on board. it is not an easy sell so far. >> the strategy is to get out

sergio marchionne has marked his 10th year at the helm of the italian carmaker. returning the automaker to profit, marchionne is again at a turning point. for more on his reign, let's bring in ryan chilcote. we know they call him the canadian. how did this all begin? >> 10 years ago, he comes in, june 4 2004. rto has just passed away. they were the owners, he was the chairman. he was very active but in the two years while he was still in the seat, the company lost $8 billion. he comes in wearing a suit, black tie, look somber and says, i am going to try to save the company. that he does. not only in the last 10 years have they acquired chrysler, but he has made fiat profitable. he has tripled revenue and he has tripled their share price. various skepticism about his next plan which basically calls for them to produce 7 million cars a year, 60% more than they do now, and make about five times more money than they are now because they are going to focus on the higher-margin cars. little problem, debt and they have got a lot of it. >> everyone looks at him very succe
