that's for the protection of the patients and the hospital too, sergio quintana. >> reporter: that's right. this is one of two hospitals in the south bay that's going to adopt that policy beginning next week. dominican hospital in santa cruise is already restricting visitors to that hospital to 16 years and older. santa clara county recorded the first flu related death in the state this season in november. so far about 10 people have died from plflu-related causes. there have been eight outbreaks, two cases requiring the patient to be in intensive care and 4 flu related deaths. across the country, the flu has hit hard. the red on the map shows where it's worst and most cases are in the south and southwest and california is among the states with the highest incidents. at a hospital in southern california, doctors have set up a tend outside the er to handle the rush. this hospital has been planning for a scenario like this for months. >> in early october we start planning with supplies, staffing that we would need, doing a mock set up of the tent and making sure we're ready in case we

sergio quintana talked with one olympic hopeful about how he's been affected by the fallout. >> reporter: good evening. and as you could see right now, there are athletes and some parents who are making their way into the pavilion here on the stanford campus. one of the athletes competing is modi, an athlete on the men's olympic team two years ago and he hopes to be a member of the team in two years. first and foremost he said he is shocked by this whole scandal. >> as an athlete, honestly it efeels emotionally betraying. we put our trust in a lot of people because we're out there to do our sport and we have to trust certain people to guide us in the right way to lead us to victory. and i feel a lot for the girls who were effected. >> reporter: now the order by the united states olympic committee to have the entire board of usa gymnastics resign is something he said is a good idea because it could help the organization rebuild. i talked with his coach, the stanford head coach here who said that actually at the moment there is some uneasiness for some of the athletes because sponsors are
