about a visit that our office had this week to the grand opening for the community assessment service center, which is operated by the adult probation department, with support from public health and human services. for a little bit of background about this project, about two years ago, governor brown responded to a federal court order about prison overcrowding. part of the problem was that the state had been unable to provide adequate health care to the inmates, and even more specifically, going back to 1990, there was a lawsuit filed on behalf of the inmates, regarding inadequate access to mental healthcare. this is a great concern to people with disabilities and it's an issue of civil rights. it's an issue where the preponderance of people incarcerated in our prisons tend to be from communities of color and tend to be people with learning disability mental health disability and other health-related disabilities. brown's plan is called "realignment." and the intention is to transfer thousands of non-violent offenders from state prisons to county jails. what the san francisco sheriff's depar

we are moving as mentioned to a service center business model in which any worker will be able to handle any customer need and in which all doors will lead to coverage. our goal is to provide first class customer service and this includes coordinating with other social service for which people may be eligible. we are currently engaged in hiring and training a number of new staff in ants pace of enrolling over 30 thousand new clients into health coverage beginning in october. we are transitioning to a service center environment which involves reworking all of our business processes and implementing a whole fleet of technology that is are intended to help our workers do their job more efficiency but to enhance the customer experience. we are conducting outreach to the new medi cal eligibles who are already on the hsa caseload, we know today we have 7 thousand or so county adult assistance program, ga recipients who are eligible for medi cal, 25 thousand additional ones will be likely to be eligible for medi cal, so we will be doing a lot of concerted outreach through channels to those folk

we just opened yesterday our community assessment service center. our future includes alternative sentencing program for women and children. it's a major budget initiative. it is ape cornerstone of our sentencing program. ~ it's and included in the 2012 plan to the board, our realignment plan. continuing our evident-based practices implementation, we know what we're doing is working and we are being recognized nationally for our results. continuing to implement the contracts of service providers for housing, sex offender treatment, job readiness, substance abuse, cognitive behavioral services, and as the sheriff spoke previously about the reentry pod. before i move into changes in the budget, i'd really like to thank the mayor's budget office kate howard and melissa howard for all their support. controller's office and also harvey rose's office and specifically amanda guma who worked closely with our staff. we are not in complete agreement, but we continue to work on that. but in terms of our overall budget and the changes, all of the changes in our
