seth: i don't think so. one point we have been trying to stress to clients, i find that the narrative of inflation is high, it is probably transitory, but there's always the upside risk, and to be sure, we are in very different times and anyone who has 100% conviction on the outlook is i lying -- is either lying to themselves or lying to you. if you think about supply chain disruptions, if they get fixed sooner than we think, if some businesses are starting to add capacity on hopes of this covid rebound, you could see those prices fall more than anticipated. so you've got to weigh risks to the outlook for inflation. for the u.s., middle of next year on a 12 month basis, you could be looking at 2%. it could be a bit lower. that possibility was highlighted in the last fomc meeting, where the staff forecast has their key measure doing below 2% in the middle of next year. jonathan: it remind me of that famous quote, if you interrogate the data for long enough, it will confess to anything. that feels like the mom

host: seth hanlon?: yes, unfortunately, i believe that the wealthy and those who have been more fortunate should pay taxes. what this bill is about, fixing the ways in which the tax system really fails to fulfill that goal. we mentioned one way before, with the, you know, mega ira tax shelter, and then also with the, you know, the form of taxation of capital gains. so, i mean, we should with these tax increases in perspective with the enormous increase in income and wealth inequality of the united states. that is the backdrop of this legislation. the wealth of the top 1% has grown by $23 trillion over the last 10 years. we are talking about $2 trillion of tax increases over the next 10 years. so it is certainly something that the wealthy and the rich can handle, and these are just important steps forward to fulfilling that principle. the wealthy should pay more. host: this debate that we are having this morning, you are going to hear a lot more about it on capitol hill this week, including this afternoo

seth, let me start with you. i showed briefly these images of the taliban showing off this american weaponry, right? which they obviously have a lot of it. they're celebrating their victory here. how important are images like this for the taliban? >> i think these images are important in part because they're getting such traction, erin, across the jihad community. i've seen these images on chat rooms in west africa for ali qaeda link groups, in north africa in the horn in somalia and yemen and across iraq and syria. so they're touting this and we can take this with obviously, a grain of salt. they are toting this as the most significant jihadist victory since the soviets were defeated in the late 1980s. it's gaining a lot of traction. >> pretty incredible. when you tack it lk about how ig used and portrayed. president biden ignored questions from reporters about afghanistan. jeff zeleny mentioned this. he did appear in front of reporters with the ukrainian president visiting. the ukrainian president did mention a

so seth, nice to see you. thank you for coming in.i guess basic question, are we safer now against the jihadist threat than we were 20 years ago? >> well, paul, i think we're safer today, that is, this very day this week, maybe this month, but my concern is that we are putting ourselves -- the administration has put ourselves on a trajectory where that does not look good next year and over the next couple of months. what we don't see right now is active plotting, like we did on september 11th, 2001, against the united states. we don't see individuals trying to fly airplanes, and that persisted over the next decade. we came very close. three suicide bombers attempted on three separate new york city subways. that was foiled by -- thankfully with great work by the fbi and u.s. and british intelligence. there were a couple of other major plots in the u.s. that al qaeda was involved in. we don't see these right now, but frankly, with the recent developments, of having one of the most important senior leaders of the taliban with close ties
