seth doane is in rio with that story. >> reporter: this is the spray paint here that marks that yourbe demolished. aymar breta has no intention of leaving his home of 18 years. it's one of the last houses still standing in this rio de janeiro neighborhood, and the city government plans to tear it along with hundreds of others to the ground. "we need to fight for what is ours," freta says, and showed the strategy to demolish houses won't work. of the 6.5 million people who live in rio, it's estimated around 20% live in slums like this one. the government says they breed crime and disease. and this one just so happens to be in the shadow of a stadium that will be used for the olympics. most of freta's neighbors voluntarily moved into government-funded housing projects. 160,000 units are planned at the cost of nearly $4 billion. >> these people will be relocated here. >> reporter: jorge bittar is rio's municipal housing secretary. he insisted that the government-funded housing is a long-planned effort to revitalize these slums. are these people being forced to move to clean up this area

results from a new type of crash test came out today and seth doane has more on that. >> reporter: 10,000 people a year die in front-impact collisions. more than 20% die in crashes like this-- what the auto industry calls small overlap crashes. the side front gets hit but the ogine block does not absorb most of the impact. the results for the first-ever crash test for this sort of accident were released today by the insurance institute for highway safety. edrian lund is the group's president. >> what we found in looking at tall overlap crashes is that most of the automakers are not building their safety cages to account for this kind of crash. >> reporter: the 11 cars tested were all in the luxury or near- luxury category and cost at least $30,000. only the acura t.l. and volvo s- 60 received a good overall rating. ohe infiniti g was given an ratiptable grade while the other eight cars got marginal or poor natings. clarence ditlow is a car safety advocate. >> this is one case where the insurance company and the consumer are aligned. the consumers want to save their life. the insurance com

seth doane is there in chatham, massachusetts. th, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, charlie. you certainly know this topic well. shark attacks. the beach behind me was closed earlier following a shark sighting and earlier we learned why. though he managed to swim to shore, the man was carried off this beach on a stretcher. christopher myers was body boarding when he sustained bite marks on monday that witnesses say tore to the bone. >> he thought that he had been attacked by a shark. he stated to me that it was a shark that had attacked his legs. >> reporter: myers was transferred to a local hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover. >> the extent of the injuries as characterized to us, you know, by the eyewitnesses on the scene and also the species that occur in the area, the presence of seals in the area, all this add up to the white shark being the most likely candidate. >> reporter: if it was a great white, it would be the first such attack in these waters in more than three-quarters of a century. t
