seth porges was staying in an apartment near where gunfire erupted. we spoke to him moments ago as he described what he saw. >> i am staying at a apartment near. there is a busting nightclub area and there are bars and restaurants around and i see a gathering of people in front of me, and my first thought is it is minor police activity and no big deal. i saw police officers holding guns, hunched behind vans like a scene out of a movie. it was just as this occurred and there were a couple of police cars and a couple of firefighters. and then there were dozens and the police were hiding behind vans. and word spread there is a shooter on the loose in the neighborhood and that is when i split and i got out of there. i saw a gentleman about 30 years old with a towel wrapped around his hand and bleeding. you could hear a police car go by right now. they are behind the barricaded area. they are going really fast down the street. that car is going very, very fast. it is a neighborhood that has people out and about, getting drunk, partying, doing things. and w

joining me now, seth porges. where were you on friday night? >> i was staying in an apartment. i was on vacation and the apartment i was stay in was pretty much next door to the site of the attack. i was coming down the apartment probably right when it occurred. i didn't hear any gun fire. i believe i was probably in the elevator when the guns went off. as soon as i stepped outside, the first thing i see is a man with a bloody hand, a t-shirt, a rag, towel wrapped around it. i move a couple of feet, i see police officers, guns out hunched behind vans as if they're getting ready for a shootout while dozens of onlookers snapping pictures. we are spreading rumors, there's gossip bubbling up from the crowd. we can see the guns drawn but nobody is saying get away. nobody is saying this is dangerous, leave. and the human response is when is somebody going to tell me what the do. the instinct is this might be a safe place. >> the police officers who it's my understanding the reporting indicate that had just been happenstance in the area. >> it seems like it because there was so few wh

let's try to talk to seth porge s, freelance journalist and an eyewitness to some of this tonight in paris. what have you seen and heard? >> reporter: so i'm sitting in anerment pa -- in an apartment next door. stepped out of the building maybe 20 seconds after it happened i did not hear the gun shots. i saw somebody stooped hiding with a white rag of sorts wrapped around their hand. i thought they punched a window. mobile, standing conscious. firefighters s s hustled this g away. i see a large gathering of police and on lookers sitting on benches taking photos. it seemed like any sort of police activity. then i saw cops with guns hiding behind vans. it looked like a scene from a movie. dozens of firefighters swarmed the scene running around in every which direction and on lookers there. and then words talking to people asking what had happened and various reports of numerous gunshots, five or six shots, looking online i saw it was an ak-47. >> seth, i have to interrupt you only for president hollande who is speaking. i am told we have simultaneous translation. >> translator: i decid
