bay area as well. so let's get right to abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya. >> yeah, those folks down in southern california. not out of the woods yet. let me show you a live picture from southern california, where you can see just plumes of smoke from the wildfires that are burning there. red flag warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. tonight. that gets replaced by a fire weather watch tomorrow going into sunday. the concern is those santa ana winds will pick up again. so strong gusty winds and low humidity will keep that fire danger high. here's a look at some of those fires that are burning in southern california. the eaton fire and the palisades fire are the two biggest ones there. they have begun to make progress in some of those fires and containment as the winds have really backed off. malibu, 27 miles an hour right now. but that's not going to last. as you will notice, the winds will begin to increase as we head towards tomorrow, veering out of the north northeast again, about 30 miles an hour. even stronger winds expected towards sunday mor

get updates as they happen at abc seven news.com and the abc seven bay area app. >> five this morning in the accuweather forecast. we'll start you out in southern california this morning where the winds are ramping up over the next several hours. we're seeing gusts right now 20 to 40mph right now. so we do have that red flag warning continuing throughout the day and into tomorrow evening. that red flag warning again, gusts over 45mph. and we have that tag on it. it's a particularly dangerous situation because of the ongoing fires and the strong santa ana winds picking up. so looking at the fire risk forecast today, we have this area highlighted in purple. that includes oxnard, thousand oaks, santa clara, santa clarita, acton. this is an area where we have some of the higher elevations, the higher terrain, the canyons as well. and those santa ana winds come out of the northeast and they race down the mountains. and this is an area that we're watching for. some of the strongest winds today could see winds in excess of 40 to 50mph. so here's future weather. the winds are going to stay ac

on wednesday, we'll stream his inauguration ceremony on abc seven news.com and our abc seven bay area app. >> across the bay in oakland, that city is also going through a leadership change this week at a special city council meeting today, a new interim mayor, council member kevin jenkins, took over. jenkins is oakland's third mayor. in the last month, after voters recalled shengtao. he replaces interim mayor nikki fortunato bass, who will be sworn in as an alameda county supervisor tomorrow. jenkins will hold the office until the city's special election in april. and today we learned about one possible candidate in that race, former east bay congresswoman barbara lee. she filed paperwork today with the city and a sign that she's planning a potential run. representatives for lee were not immediately available for comment about this. >> this week, the city of san jose will start clearing out rv encampments. the city will mark some areas as towaway zones, forcing people in their rvs or cars to leave or risk punishment. the plan is to clean those areas while they're car free. this year,
