number 3, we have here the sfmta cac recommends that the sfmta adopt the revised delegation policy aspresented to the cac, provided that a list of approved contracts, purchases and contract modifications approved by the director of transportation, be included on the sfmta board meeting agenda as part of the director's report. so this was a policy change which sounded sensible enough to us, which allows for the director of transportation to approve contracts up to a threshold of $1 million where previously it had been $500 thousand. and some other related changes to that. we did include the proviso about the approved contracts be included in the agendas for this meeting. final thing, i would like to say, speaking more as an individual and less on behalf of the cac, about an item you have coming up on the agenda today. the idea getting people to prioritize transit to access the new warriors arena, i think is a great approach. and should be encouraged having -- making way for cars to access the arena is not going to be a great land use. i think we have the capability to have great transi

i'm excited to be here to support the reappointment of mandy eaken on the sfmta board. i'm proud of my role on the bike coalition of which i'm director, we add our support. honestly as someone who is recently elected to be on the head of a transportations board, one that is not paid well -- i actually don't think that director eaken receives any kind of payment or even stipend, it is not an easy job. it is an incredibly thankless job, and in the time director eaken has been in that role, she's brought forward and pushed so many things in a short amount of time. i think the most you can ask in an appointment is someone who's accessible, someone who cares deeply about the role that they are charged with, and someone who has an amount of expertise who they bring in that role. i truly believe that amanda eaken brings all of those things into this role. she has continued working in her current role. in terms of accessibility, the moment we heard about different fatalities, i was on phone calls with amanda eaken until late at night. i cannot say the same of other appointed co

san franciscans depend on the sfmta, and more to the point, on dedicated transportation professionals to keep our city moving. it takes about 200 mechanics to keep our more than 1,000 munimobile vehicles operating safely and efficiently. these are high-quality, high-paying jobs with great benefits that don't require a college degree, and yet, the requirements are still too high for many applicants. as our workforce starts to retire, we need to them prove the next generation of skilled workers to keep our buses and trains running. we knew that they had launched a training program through the utility sector, and we are collaborating with them through their work with the san francisco unified school district. we knew that they would be a great organization for our department. by working together with the city college of san francisco and local 1414 and the machinist union, we establish the automotive technician pre apprenticeship program. this training before the training provides an avenue for participants to brush up on the math and reading skills with city college, develop their soft

my name is casey and i'm a senior planner with livable streets for the sfmta. here to you -- here today to talk to you about the battery connections project. i'm pitching for the project manager who is out sick today, he is very sad he couldn't be here. the connections project is a partnership between the porter of san francisco and the sfmta, as well as district three supervisor aaron peskin's office who is funding this project through the neighborhood transportation improvement program from the t.a. it is an outgrowth of ongoing conversations with the port around improving safety along the waterfront, particularly the embarcadero, which came into sharp relief last summer when there was a reckless fatal hit and run of the petty cap operator at this particular intersection here. and it is a direct response trying to improve safety at this particular intersection as well as the adjacent and pop -- problematic battery in the intersection, but then through ongoing conversations with them, we are really trying to create a connected bikeway parallel to the embarcade

we strongly urge sfmta to move the 48 to the tunnel as part of this pilot. also, baseline data for this pilot was collected while school was in session. the proposal is perhaps the pilot to take place during the summer when traffic patterns are significantly different. data will not accurately reflect impact. the request from the merchants is delay the pilot by 90 days so sfmta is getting feedback from them and also collecting comparable data. this is reasonable. we have all experienced trains in the station with multiple munis are lined up waiting to get into the station. this is an operational issue. not one of traffic. at multiple meetings, questions were asked about what is being done operationally to address this. quite frankly, much more i am pactful issue. not until last week in the letter from director reiskin operational strategies were share. one with the timeline or clarity about how many were being implemented. in asking staff, i was told one or two strategies were being implemented and sfmta was still working on fine tuning those changes -- [ pl

simply an idea that was brought up at the last sfmta meeting. but really it comes down to pedestrian safety, something the city has an emphasis on when it. you talk about the campaign in a moment. when it comes to this idea it would be possibly eliminating right turns on red lights in the city of san francisco. now, according to the vision zero san francisco campaign, which is the city's campaign to bring traffic fatalities to zero in the city by 2023, they said there were nearly to dozen traffic fatalities in the city in 2018 and this year they've already reached nearly half of that number. we got a chance to speak with a pedestrian safety group to get their take as well as some pedestrians out here to see if they'd feel safer with these types of changes. >> collisions between cars and pedestrians in cross-walks, we see that as about 25% of the collisions between cars and pedestrians. so that's a good number to really come down and reduce. and we think that we should be doing everything possible to bring those numbers down. >> the people who ha
