primary, out of chicago heading towards sfo. also out of cleveland heading to sfo.ook a look at some weather conditions finally above zero but barely. chicago o'hare now reporting two above zero. meanwhile, here at sfo, we have plenty of cloud cover and a light to heavy drizzle at 53 degrees. so if we have any more delays here at sfo today, it could possibly be even be because of our own local weather not the polar vortex. let's give you a recap. yesterday, we were talking about 2500 cancellations of planes all across the country due to that polar vortex. you get a lot of unclaimed baggage and that was the case locally from sfo to mineta and oakland international airport. i checked in with the cbs marketwatch they say we have seen airports and airlines report $1.4 billion in losses and over 19,000 airline cancellations. that is over the pass 7 days. meanwhile, today an improving situation, although people at the country at every, single state except hawaii waking up with 32 or below. i checked with a town i hawaii, 72 degrees there. right now we have low ceiling and

i just checked the big board inside sfo. and it looks like for jet blue passengers, this could be a happier travel day for them. all the jet blue flights including the ones to new york and boston scheduled to be on time this morning. but not all passengers here are going to be so lucky today. four flights from sfo to the east coast canceled. eight arrivals from the east coast to sfo canceled. all the flights are out of newark, milwaukee, chicago, boston, and jfk. now this has been a wild couple of days for all these airlines. 19 canceled flights here at sfo in total yesterday. many of those chicago-bound. and many passengers have to waitdays now the for -- waitdays now for their next flight. >> there's nothing i can do. i suggested to -- family to a different state but they can't do it. >> reporter: so the good news is at least for jet blue passengers it looks like their flights are going to be on time. coming up at 5:30 we're going to talk to the jet blue passengers here in line now and see what they have to say. mark kelly

it's not bad here at sfo. i've checked as far as cancellations go and so far, there's been 13 cancelations but they've all been from flights arriving from the east here to sfo. there's just been one cancellation departing from sfo today. now, the heavy yes snowfall in the middle east and northwest is causing a lot of problems for airports there. the number of canceled flights keeps growing every hour. flighttracker.com is reporting more than 2,000 canceled flights and there's about the same amount of delays. the airports hardest hit are la guardia, boston, j.f.k. at logan airport, officials grounded all nights overnight until about 5:00 a.m. j.f.k. was closed overnight but it reopened a couple of hours ago. we poke to passengers departing sfo who were concerned about traveling that direction. >> i wassing checking the weather -- i was checking the weather channel and checking on google to see my flight schedule. it says it's on time. so it's all right. >> reporter: is it supposed to snow when you arrive? >> it

of course, they canceled about 50 flights here at sfo last night. a lot of those people just stayed at the airport, didn't bother getting a hotel, slept here and are now getting on flights. so that's affecting a lot of people who are trying to get on an airplane right now. but the good news is that not a lot of departures are affecting the passengers for now. but we'll check on see. we talked to some people who spent the night at the airport and we'll have that coming up in the next half hour but for now, could be a worse here at sfo. lawrence karnow has the latest on the weather conditions all across the country and here in the bay area. here he is. >> yeah. i think we'll see a ripple effect as people get up and see a lot of problems with the airlines all across the united states. this is the reason why a very serious storm system. one for the record books making its way along the northeast. subzero from the south -- subtropical moisture air coming from the south and cold air from the north and pounding areas along the northeast united states. some
