>>> right now at 11:00, fire breaks out next to sfo. a united airlines maintenance facility is evacuated when smoke fills up the building. >> good morning. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. we broke into the "today" show when we first saw the smoke coming from close to the airport. nbc bay area bob redell is live at the facility near sfo. what is the latest, bob? >> reporter: you could see behind me that fire is out, has been out for a couple of hours now. but anybody driving up 101 across the bay bridge, 880 had to think what is going on at sfo. did an airplane crash. you could see why. this is what it looked like around 7:15, 7:30 this morning. it created a plume of smoke and the san francisco fire department tweeted out this was not an airplane crash. this two-alarm fire started in a heating, hvac unit. the fire department had it out in about an hour. alarms did go off the building and united said all of the employees evacuated. no one was hurt. we spoke to one mechanic who said the evacuation was calm and orderly. >> e

taking a live look outside at sfo this morning. and well, tomorrow, expect it to be one of the busiest days to fly this year, but it is going to drive air traffic in and around sfo to have a lot of folks feeling anxious, and yesterday the airport opened up a new lot where the uber and the lyft drivers can wait for passengers without the congestion in millbrae and burlingame. this is on san bruno exit off of 101. and this is how it works. the ride share drivers wait there or in the other two staging lots to the south instead of circling the terminal. and then when a passenger calls for a ride, the driver can meet them, and at the new pickup area on the rooftop of the hourly parking garage which opened a month ago replacing the curbside pickup, and the management seems it is a good fix. >> they start in one of the staging lots and wait for the customer to request them, and when they get the request, that is when they enter into the new pickup areat ta center of the garage on the fifth floor, and they think it is wonderful, and the sh
