both sfpd groups are in two buildings that need to be vacated. they will join the new $183 million facility in late 2021. >> elements of the cfi and the traffic company are housed at the hall of justice, which has been determined to be seismically unfit. it is slated for demolition. in addition to that the forensic services crime lab is also slated for demolition. it was time and made sense to put these elements currently spread in different parts of the city together into a new facility. >> the project is located in the bayview area, in the area near estes creek. when san francisco was first formed and the streetcars were built back it was part of the bay. we had to move the building as close to the edge as possible on bedrock and solid elements piles down to make sure it was secure. >> it will be approximately 100,000 square feet, that includes 8,000 square feet for traffic company parking garage. >> the reason we needed too new building, this is inadequate for the current staffing needs and also our motor department. the officers need more roo

this is all about the sfpd. after approving the plan last week, today the board of supervisors actually flipped, now saying sfpd cannot use these so-called deadly force robots. this is an issue that has people fired up, even getting rowdy during today's session. the board even removed any language of robots and lethal force from this proposal. the board did approve an overall policy to allow the police department to continue using its dozen or so robots to examine and defuse suspicious packages without deadly force. >> the concerns are this would be the first time that the city and county of san francisco is saying to the police department, you can use robots to kill people. that is an alarming position for our city to take. >> i don't believe that san francisco should be the first municipality in california to prohibit the use of these devices if, god forbid, there were a mass casualty event or terrorist incident. >> the board did agree to send this issue back to committee for further consideration in the month

sfpd says 120 thefts have been reported this year versus 67 the entirety of last year. nationwide the department of transportation reports major airlines have mishandled two million bags versus roughly one million the year before. kristen: interesting. so it is a combination of theft and mishandling and people coming back. you also have new numbers showing which airlines have the highest and lowest theft rates for luggage. can we take a look at that? kevin: yeah. we derived this by dividing the number of bags lost with total bags checked in. the bottom four airlines are american airlines, jetblue, alaska, and united. on the others of the spectrum, the major airlines with the lowest theft rates will be spirit, southwest, delta, and hawaiian airlines. kristen: interesting. something to keep in mind. what are some factors that make luggage theft easy in the u.s.? is there something in our airport design? kevin: unlike some other countries such as asia, the baggage claim area for domestic flights here in the u.s. is open for anybody to access. once your bag hits the conveyo
