in partnership with sfusd and b.c. berkley and underwriting from google. about to start the third year of that. here are youth showing buy ofacts to some of the high school attendees. and then finished the 4th year of partnering with sfusd. they have a big presence in san francisco. we've partnered with them offer zoo force for 6th graders in underserved schools. we teach animal behavior class in the schools. a week later, the kids come to the zoo and come to hang out and visit with the animals. this involves the volunteers and the staff, about to embark on the fifth year of partnering in two weeks. in terms of youth volunteers, this is just the youth volunteers with the education department. we have others in the natural trail, animal resource center. but these are some of the numbers in terms of scholarship recipients. the number of hours that the youth have contributed during the year. there are some of the youth with reading, storytime station, for the visitors that come by. this is outside the african savannah, so they're reading a book about the zebr

then we reviewed a fiscal impact analysis of the -- the resolution in support of further reducing sfusd assessments. >>president walton: thank you, committee of the whole, tuesday, november 7th, commissioner mendoza-mcdonnell. >> thank you. we had a great update on the safe and supportive schools and what's been happening related to that, and then, we did a report on the revisions to the board policy 5101, students sign, which we voted on this morning. >> curriculum and program, commissioner norton. >> yes, the curriculum and program committee met last night. we forwarded to you, as i engs med earlier, the resolution on reducing assessments with a positive recommendation. we also heard a really interesting record on the update on the school of the arts outreach plan. they've made a lot of progress, actually, after the resolution two years ago. principal payne was on hand. they've got a common audition policy that all of the -- the arts leads now are implementing that take care of a lot of the concerns the board has had in the past. they've had great interest in the summer program. there

but i do want you to know and understand this: there are a lot of people that have graduated from sfusd that are doing a tremendous job for the city and doing very, very well. members of the board of supervisors, members of this board of education, members -- lawyers, doctors, judges. i want you to understand that the top job in this school district is occupied by a graduate of san francisco unified school district, so just the narrative about not being -- not being able to be successful, you might want to try something else, because we have very successful people day-to-day that continue to come through our public schools. with that said, i am going to support this school because one, i've had conversations with school personnel, i've met students, met young people, and we're not about tearing apart things that are working, that exist, and people that have developed the school community, but let's all work together to change that narrative about what's really happening and focus on the positive aspects of what we all can do as we work together. roll call vote please, miss casco. >> cle
