classification, so we wanted to compare sfusd. we classified students e.l.s and english only students to take a look at their performance over the last three years and compare it to all of the state english learners. you can see we're making slight gains over the state, but we did dip compared to other years for english learners. but our reclassified e.l.s continue to out perform even our english only students. this is -- these are our reclassification numbers by language pathway, from the 16-17 numbers, we increased in total of 300 reclassifications, and you can see where the growth is by language pathway. this shows the graduation percentage by e.l. classification. we -- the district total continues to increase each year for english learners, so while we do have english learners that stay an additional year, we also do have english learners that are graduating, and the number continues to increase. you can see that compared with our reclassified students, they are on par with our icep students and also our english only students.

and within sfusd. my two youngest have learning differences and other disabilities, and i'm really emotional right now because every time something like this happens, i think holy crap, my kid is next. i'm here because of my seventh grader, damian. he's the sweetest kid you'll ever meet. he's 13. he doesn't look like a kid, he looks like an adult. he's got adhd, sensory processing disorder. when he gets overwhelmed, when he get overstimulated, he shuts down. in a situation like this, i don't even want to think about what would have happened to him. so while we need to not only revisit this m.o.u., we need to consider all of our student populations. we have a huge amount of disproportionality of sfusd of our african american students and latinx and pacific identifies lander being put into certain situations and not given the support they need. and we need to make sure that we've got all the appropriate safeguards in place, particularly in our m.o.u. to support students who need the additional layer of s

i am here today because, as a district 4 representative i represent many students that go to sfusd and some that go to balboa high school. they have the right to feel safe where they go to school. school should be a safe place. a nurturing environment and learning. instead at balance owe a, even with this incident, it was severely mishandled and students did not feel safe. so, the transformative justice committee has a couple of recommendations we want to present to you. we believe in youth rights. we really believe that sfpd and sfusc should up hold them. we should make sure all children know what miranda rights are, how to get a lawyer. we need them to know so if they're in a situation they can be able to defend themselves and have their rights. also, an incident like this impacts the whole community, not just the students and administrators involved. we need to have an investment in community healing and community or entered solutions that follow-up with youth and their families. thank you for calling this hearing and having me here. just wanted to give a quick shout out to the othe

i also want a current inventory of the hvac air filtration system in sfusd schools and city recreationentres. and an estimated cost to install those and larger spaces at each of those facilities. as we have facility bonds that come through in our public school system, and in the public buildings, it looks like we need to make sure that when those new renovations happen, we have cutting edge air filtration systems. it is looking like we might need those in the future more than we've expected to need those in the past. let's start that planning now as we go forward. finally, a study of best practices for using publicly accessible buildings, schools, recreation centers, libraries and more, to provide safe respite spaces. this information was available to the public. we can learn better practices to get that information out. i also want to mention that i know there is some controversy over training people when and how to use the respirator masks. i think that we need to have a harm reduction approach and that we need to have a robust education campaign and just realize that is much we tell

things return to normal, this monday, in light of many students being off for thanksgiving week, the sfusd is out all week. we are going to keep many of our recreation sites open to make sure kids have a fun, safe place to play. hamilton, moscone, soma, and others will be open monday-tuesday -- oh, they're going to be open on monday, and then, the sites will be open during the normal hours on tuesday and wednesday, because monday was normally a closed day for them, but we are district attorney going to open them on monday because school was out, and then, we're going to open them on tuesday and wednesday. the safeway rink is open, and beginning on november 30, the all new winter park at civic center will welcome visitors, and i think embarcadero plaza ri rink opens with a lighting show tomorrow night. all kids will be able to skate for $5 before 3:30. we're really making an effort to ensure that everybody gets to enjoy this rink. more info can be found on our website, sfrecpark.org. we have our craft day at the rana museums annual craft day, november 30. for more information, you can visit
