but there is a sense that people feel this is a little bit of a shakedown, just because of the fear and maybe the lack of understanding of what it may take to bring once business into accessibility, and also the fact that businesses feel that are being signaled out -- being singled out. they would like to see the property owners be more involved in meeting the requirements as well. so i think that is where we are now. neil friedman is here to talk about helping explain, although i think this commission knows more than our commission, the distinction between the federal ada and the california building codes. moving forward, we have the casp inspection. the department of building inspection has one inspector. the mayor's office of disability has some inspectors. our next step is working together to figure out how we utilize these resources to possibly minimize our small businesses from having to pay the private sector for these services. an additional thing, though this will take some funding and planning -- lawrence cornfield -- kornfield did a great video in 2007 explaining the differen

three new elements have come into the picture that i think may lead to some kind of shakedown, if youill, this week. first, republicans will be back from their statewide convention they had in sacramento. some want to just literally wait on this issue until after the convention to avoid criticism from fellow republicanser, personally very conservative republicans. they got the convention out of the way. second, the governor has called for a two-thirds vote to put this thing on the ballot. normally two-thirds votes are required to put it on the ballot. a nonpartisan legislative analyst says this vote might require majority approval. well, the democrats have a solid majority so, if they go in that direction it might be enough to threaten republicans, come along or else. third, there was a pew poll released just the other day, kris, and that field poll shows voters voted for temporary tax base a solid margin, 56% to 39%. not as high as some like to be but that's a pretty good gap right now. any or all of these things could come into play over the next few days. just remember, you have to

caucus, leadersen the energy and commerce committee on their caucus accuse president obama of doing a shakedown of b.p. when he said you have to clean up the oil spill in the gulf and now we have members attacking him. that's an interesting fact right there. i found that quite remarkable. anyway, put goldman sachs in charge of our economic policy. put insurance companies between you and your doctor. they are always say, oh, the government takeover. they want to repeal health care, the affordable care act, which will put you back at the whim of an insurance company bureaucrat. at least the government you can vote on. you can't vote on the insurance company. that's a privately held company. bonuses for c.e.o.'s who ship american jobs overseas privatize social security, oh, yes, they did. raise retirement age. gut medicare. and some of them have stood for repeal of the 14th amendment and the 17th amendment. this is a republican plan. this is what they stand for. this is what they're about. this is what they believe in i think that they should be proud and come down here and claim it and say, yeah,

the accountant leaps up and goes and locks the door, palls the shakedown, opens a drawer, puts the phone in the drawer, shuts the door, grabs the ceo, takes him over to the corner and says, how much to you wanted to be. [laughter] that has absolutely nothing to do with what i'm going to talk to you about tonight. i thought i would come and talk to you a little bit about what is happening in this country right now. i think if you are like me, like anybody in my family, like anyone at the table you are at, you have a little bit more anxious to than you used to think you're going to have at this stage in life. what is going on in our nation and what is going on and around the world. i was talking to someone the other day. i hate to say this. i am actually nostalgic for the old days. it was the superpower confrontation with the u.s. on one side and the soviet union on the other side. when every issue we knew what the sides were. they never changed. it was the u.s., great britain, france, and our allies over here, the soviet union and her allies over there, whether it was straight to my inter

it appears to be nothing less than name regulatory shakedown by the consumer protection agency, certain attorney general's and others led by elizabeth warren. the proposed settlement seems to be an attempt to advance the administration's political agenda of rather than an effort to help homeowners who were harmed by actual conduct. just last year, i warned that the new bureau of consumer financial protection would prove to be an unaccountable and unbridled bureaucracy. i did not expect to be proven correctly so quickly. under the guise of helping homeowners hurt by improper foreclosures, regulators are attempting to extract a staggering payments of nearly $30 billion for unspecified conduct. the $30 billion would find a new slate of housing programs long sought by the administration previously rejected by the congress. setting aside for a moment the attempt to in run congress, i question whether removing $30 billion in capital through a back door bank tax is the best way to jumpstart lending in today's recession. the long-term consequences of the settlement could be even more serious. i
