a shift, attorney shannon dugan, said could hurt his case in the eyes of the jury. >> got into it with d.a., and he pushed back in a way that some jurors could think oh, this is a new side of nima momeni. we didn't see this earlier, but we see it now. could he have acted like that on the night of the stabbing? >> reporter: the prosecution pressed momeni on why a bad joke could lead to lee wanting to stab him. momeni said the bad joke was one he took to heart. the prosecution responding, yes, he did take it to the heart, referencing the fatal stab wound to bob lee's own heart. that tense exchange between momeni and prosecutors, causing the judge to briefly pause the courtroom asking all parties to take a breath in an effort to diffuse tensions inside the courtroom. all of this unfolding before the jury who will decide the fate of momeni. that's where we will pick back up tomorrow with continued cross-examination of momeni by prosecutors. >>> all right, more from lauren soon. let's talk weather. it was not heavy rain by any means, but things are starting to dry out after a few scattered

attorney shannon dugan says this lack of clarity gives the defense room to argue that momeni could haveeen acting in self-defense. >> it's not the smoking gun or definitive piece of evidence, but can it match up to the d.a.'s version of the case? arguably, somewhat. >> reporter: momeni did not appear to reenact any struggle with lee during the eight-minute video and didn't make any motions to suggested imminent harm to himself. still dugan says this key piece of evidence may not have delivered the impact that prosecutors anticipated. >> i think the prosecution did perhaps overpromise in their opening statement about what this video was going to show and it didn't match up to that today. >> reporter: we also saw photos of bob lee on the autopsy table the day after his passing taken by the assistant medical examiner who performed that autopsy. we saw close-up photos of the stab wounds bob lee sustained, each measuring about one inch wide to three to five inches deep. bob lee's former wife krista was in the room and could be seen clutching the hand of her partner as she listened to testimo

, they testified that he was the type to diffuse heated situations between others and attorney shannon dugan says their words were in direct contrast to the defense's argument. >> so it had the power today to do great damage to the defense and nima momeni's testimony. >> reporter: the defense's argument, that a bad joke made by nima momeni sparked a knife-wielding rage in lee. it relies heavily on testimony from momeni himself, who consistently said that lee, while high on cocaine and ketamine, acted erratically and aggressively as he had to stand his ground in an attack. but thursday's testimony could have been powerful enough to override that image in the eyes of the jury. >> the question hanging over this case for the jury is very likely was bob lee the type of person who would conceal a knife, take it to the scene of a crime, pull it out aggressively on somebody, and act in a manner that wasn't necessarily consistent with his other behavior because he was under the influence of drugs. and today the answer according to these witnesses was no. >> reporter: and with the thanksgiving holiday

arguments are set for the first week of december and joining us now to talk more about this is shannon duganctator inside the courtroom every day of this trial. thank you for being with us today. >> thank you for having me. >> on thursday, three long time friends of bob lee took the stand, refuting nima momeni's claim of acting in self-defense saying bob lee could not have possibly been an aggressor. was the testimony affected? >> i think it was incredibly effective. the jurors people had known bob lee for many years, one had known him for almost 20 years. they had work with him and had socialized with him. and a really key importance they had done drugs with him sometimes over a multi-day period. there are people who had never testified before in court and they had to basically come in and admit that they had used illegal drugs but what they said that was so key was that even though , even when bob lee was under the influence of drugs, including cocaine and ketamine , he was still bob and he did not change into some kind of jekyll and hyde character. that he was neville erratic and did not

joining us to talk about this and more is shannon dugan, a criminal defense attorney who has been a spectatorr and thank you for being with us this morning.>> thank you for having me. >> when it comes to what happened the night of the stabbing, at this point there are two different versions of events that have been presented. can you give us a quick summary of what those are.>> the prosecution's version is that nima momeni was angry over something that happened with his sister khazar that bob lee had introduced khazar to a friend who had also turned out to be a drug dealer named jeremy. jeremy had drugged and assaulted khazar the night before the stabbing. and nima momeni was very upset about that. he confronted bob lee over the phone initially and then also at khazar's house and drove bob lee to a secluded area on main street , where he without provocation, pulled out a knife that he had taken from khazar's house and stabbed bob lee and left him to die. that is the prosecution's version. the defense version is that nima momeni was not angry with bob lee or jeremy before the stabbing. that he
