shannon stone is over the scene in newscopter 7. with the latest, shannon? >> reporter: yeah and liz as we have been reporting, this is the staff and faculty that are outside the cuny building here along 42nd street between 2nd and 3rd avenues. what was happening here and police were keeping them in a nice line. they are protesting because they've had no contract for five years and no raise for six. but while they are outside, there are people inside the building that were negotiating for them. what they have said was about 4:45, if they did not hear what they wanted to hear, they were planning to sit down in front of the doors and that is what you are seeing right now. while the police have kept them barricaded to an area so that the sidewalk could get through as well as 42nd street. now they have taken over the sidewalk and they are in fact sitting down in front of the doors blocking the doors to the college. so that's what you are seeing there are clearly they didn't get the news they were looking for and of course now just going to watch this to make sur
