. >> joining us now, shaquille brewster in jacksonville where ian is swirling now and metrologist bill karins with the latest on ian's path. shaq, what are you seeing now? >> you hear the wind gusts coming through and there's rain that's coming down at varying intensities. the best depiction i've heard about how jacksonville is dealing with this storm came from a local metrologist who said it's not that jacksonville got what they were expecting or what they feared in terms of the intensity of this storm, but he said the worst of this storm and the biggest impacts could still be yet to come. their main concern is not that the wind is going to get to crazy levels or there will be a significant amount of rain, there will be a significant amount of rain, but it's what the wind does to the water in this area and specifically in the st. johns river behind me. we're minutes away from that high tide point, for the point when the river will be the highest point. jacksonville is an area that florida regularly that saw significant flooding with previous storms. you heard the mayor mention hurrica

nbc's correspondent shaquille brewster is in jacksonville with the latest. >> hi there.e mayor of jacksonville telling me that they are breathing somewhat of a sigh of relief here in jacksonville. but warns citizens that they are not out of the woods yet, that's largely because of the st. johns river you see behind me. this river is expected to reach another high tide sometimes in the overnight hours. that could bring the potential of flooding to those low-lying areas in jacksonville. the mayor insisting that those people in the low lying areas that did participate in a voluntary evacuations, he's asking that they stay and allow crews to reassess tomorrow morning for folks start coming back to this area. that's not to suggest the jacksonville did not get impacted by this storm. we saw consistent rain, tropical storm force winds throughout the city during the day. we do know that overnight, we saw downed trees, downed power lines, even a sign that fell at one point. there were roads that were closed off or extended period of time, but many of the crews were able to go out

joining us now with the latest is shaquille brewster in chicago.nalyst stephanie rule. so what are your take aways for this report today? >> inflation is still stubborn. there's some very good news when you look across things. gas prices, one of the biggest drivers of inflation, have been going down for the last 91 days. we like the jobs picture. we like wages, but as far as inflation, the thought that things are going to go down quickly it ain't happening. you said it, rent is high, health care costs are high, energy costs are high. we talk about inflation as it relates going to the grocery store. for you and me every time we get our milk, eggs, everything is very expensive. so for families, the everyday of things we're buying still cost a lot despite the fact the fed has made moves to raise rates. >> so i just lost contact with you. thank god you know as much as you know about everything. you were explaining it very well. i was seeing the graphics up there. i want to know, shaquille, from your perspective, you spent time in a grocery store. the c

i want to bring in sha shaquille brewster, and also steve kornacki is ready at the big board. shaq, in writing about the poll results, there are two completely different campaigns that are going on right now. is that what you're finding when you speak and listen to voters there? >> reporter: that's absolutely the case. by the way, one of those national voter registration events is happening here in milwaukee behind me. they might be kicking off any minute now doing a car parade to encourage voters to come out to register to vote on this day. but in my conversations with folks across the state of wisconsin, you hear two issues that come up more than others. one, inflation and the economy, and two, abortion. but our nbc poll showed that different parties had the advantage with those issues. you see republicans have the advantage when you're talking about immigration. economy and crime. democrats the advantage with abortion, health care, and education. that advantage is trickling town to how voters are perceiving the candidates in this battleground state. listen to some of those
