we want to bring in nbc news correspondent shaquille brewster. shaq, a lot are surprised to see production starting up again. you'll see alex with witnesses to that. >> reporter: the production of this movie was actually part of a settlement agreement between alec baldwin and matthew hutchins, who is the widower to halyna. this is as part of the agreement matthew will be an executive producer on this production. alec baldwin will still be the lead actor there and still will be a co-producer, but two sources are telling nbc news this production will be about three weeks long, between 20 and 25 days. that instead of happening in mexico as was where the fatal shooting occurred it was moved to montana to the yellowstone filming ranch and that it will essentially be a tribute to halyna. that much of her cinematography, her original work will be preserved and used as much as possible and will definitely expect it to be emotional but the production is going forward. >> catch us up. the many case has not gone to trial. where do things stand? >> reporter:

joining us is shaquille brewster good morning what do we know about the charges that were dropped?od morning, jose. sources tell nbc news that prosecutors learned new information about the prop gun that was in alec baldwin's hand in october of 2021 specifically that it was modified with a new trigger that would have made it possible for a misfire to occur as baldwin has alleged. so, overnight, prosecutors confirmed that they dropped that involuntary manslaughter charge against baldwin and said in a statement that in preparation for major hearing that was set to begin in just about two weeks, they say, quote, new facts revealed that -- new facts were revealed that demand further investigation and forensic analysis. consequently they go on to say we cannot proceed under a current time constraint and on the facts and evidence turned over by law enforcement in its existing form. they acknowledge and they insist that this is not clear alec baldwin of criminal culpability. they say new charges could be launched at in point in the future and we expect to learn a little bit more during a v

nbc news correspondent shaquille brewster has the details what happened?er: this is happening on the exact day the production was restarting for the "rust" film look at the statement we got from alec baldwin's attorneys. this is them saying that charges have been dropped. it reads in full we are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against alec baldwin, and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident alec baldwin was charged in january with one count of involuntary manslaughter he and the weapons supervisor were charged with that count after the october 2021 death of cinematographer halyna hutchins. her widower is a part of the production that was restarting today. he's now an executive producer on that film alec baldwin is going to be participating. he's on set now. we know that production, according to to two sources familiar with the production is going to be going on for about three weeks, somewhere between 20 to 25 days. as that production is taking place, we're getting news from his attorneys

joining us now is nbc news correspondents shaquille brewster.he suits allege that derek chauvin used excessive and unreasonable force in two separate incidents in 2017. as you mentioned, that was three years before the murder of george floyd. in that video that you just saw a little bit of, you saw derek chauvin using the same technique so to speak that he used against george floyd, placing his knee on the back and necks of those two individuals. the men that you're looking at there was just 14 years old at the time. his name was john pope. derek chauvin was doing this as he was trying to take him into custody. now notably this is on the civil side, but derek chauvin pleaded guilty to depriving mr. pope of his constitutional rights back in 2021. in that plea agreement, chauvin admitted to having his knee on his neck for more than 15 minutes, despite the 14-year-old being facedown, handcuffed, and not resisting. >> and just to be clear, he's okay now? do we know where mr. pope is now? >> reporter: yes. pope is okay now. he is now an adult. so tha
