joining me now from laconia, you hampshire, is nbc news correspondent, shaquille brewster. good to see you. that time is ticking, winding down until that primary on tuesday. what are you hearing from voters on the ground there? >> they are taking their time, katie. i will tell you, we came to have a little bit of fun this saturday morning, saturday afternoon now, come into one spot and what's been a bellwether town here in new hampshire. talking to folks in between rounds of bowling or as they've been going through the arcade. one thing i continue to here is how many undecided voters there are. people who were saying, they're going to wait until the very last minute to make a decision. one lady joked to me that she's not going to make a decision until the next three weeks. i said ma'am, you have three days until this election. you need to come on and decide on a candidate. but you know, you look at polling coming into tuesday's primary, you see nikki haley still trailing donald trump in this crucial state by double digits. but in a sign of hope for her, you see among those

. >> shaquille brewster starts us off in manchester, new hampshire, let's begin in priscilla thompson, big picture, what does trump's win in iowa what does it say about the state of the race in. >> reporter: kate the top line out of iowa is that donald trump won nearly every voting block, let me tick through the numbers that we saw in the entrance poll, he won 65% of caucus-goers with no college degree, he won 61% of very conservative caucus-goers, 55% of those 65 and older and 53% of the white evangelical vote and that's notable because ted cruz won that group back in 2016, but eight years later, donald trump really dominated and increasing his lead among evangelicals around 20 points here, so it raises the question of how any other candidate is going to build a winning coalition moving into these other early states when donald trump is clearly sweeping all of the key gop voting blocks. kate, zin he, le. >> shaq, you're in new hampshire, that's up next, what are voters telling you about the upcoming primary? >> reporter: well, they say they're ready. they know the candidates are goin

shaquille brewster in lacona and vaughn hillyard in milford for us. dasha, in the past, goffstown has been an important bellwether for that state. tell us what you're seeing and what voters were telling you. >> reporter: yeah, chris, the reason it is a bellwether is because it really pretty much exactly mirrored the state wide results back in 2016. this isn't maga country, right. trump won by 34% here, but there are a lot of folks in this area that voted for the likes of kasich, rubio, bush, right. so this is an area where haley has the opportunity to do quite well. and folks are casting their votes now as we speak. there has been a steady flow of people here. she needs to run up her margins here. she has to get around 50% or so in goffstown and areas like it to have the strong showing that she wants to have if she wants to have that chance at slowing or potentially stopping trump's march to the nomination. i want you to hear some of the conversations that we had with voters today. >> why not donald trump? >> because as she says, chaos follows him, wh

let's bring in shaquille brewster in lacona. you've been looking into how haley's trying to build this coalition. how does it square with what you're hearing from voters there this morning? >> reporter: hi there, ana, good morning to you. we're hearing hints of that coalition here in lacona. this is a town somewhat of a bellwether where in 2016 it almost mirrored the results you saw in the primary state wide. based on the conversations i've been having, you get a mix of voters here, but one thing that keeps coming up is even among those voters who aren't planning to support former president donald trump, he is the dominant factor. listen to just a few of those conversations i've been having. >> your vote for nikki haley was more about donald trump? >> yes. we didn't want him, but we thought we just wanted to vote for somebody else and we wanted to vote. we almost didn't vote at all, but then we said, no, we have to vote. >> reporter: what about nikki haley got you to support her? >> anything but trump. >> reporter: say that agai

. >> let's start with nbc's shaq brewster, shaquille brewster in new hampshire.s is becoming a two-person race in new hampshire but not the rest of the campaign. what is the leading topic of conversation among the voters you're talking to? >> reporter: well, they really just want to hear from the candidates and interact with them. for some, it's about stopping donald trump and for others it's about supporting the former president. and andrea, we have a snapshot of the race from polls from suffolk university that show former president trump at 50%, with about a 16-point lead over nikki haley. now, it's important to know, as we have the polls on the screen that new hampshire is a state in which it is difficult, truly difficult, to get an accurate depiction of how voters are feeling. and it's because of those undeclared voters. here in the state, if you're undeclared or independent as it's known in much of the country, you can pick up whatever ballot you want. you can choose to vote in the republican race. you can choose to vote in the democratic race. or you can ch

. >> shaquille brewster is joining us, and senior adviser, tara set may r, who are youg to sway withs ad, it's not going to sway evangelicals, so what's the point? >> the point is they need to start paying attention to what's going on here with donald trump, christian nationalism and this idea that he is somehow a divine right of kings type of dictator that is ordained by god. this is so antithetical to what this country was founded on. it's antithetical to what our founders clearly said like john adams who said the united states government is not founded on a christian religion, and i think a lot of people, particularly in swing states, swing state voters, independents, some of the softer republicans who we call ban in line voters who need a permission structure to vote for joe biden. these types of people need to see what the contrast is here, what we're actually up against, this undercurrent of the christian nationalism that is being put forth and accepted by the republican party as mainstream is dangerous to our democracy, and so whistleblower -- we're trying to point that out an
