newport aquarium' s new shark ray pups are coming along. they were born last month, and they have been under the care of biologists and newport aquarium staff. the pups are growing up at an off-site animal health facility. each pup is swimming in a 1000-gallon saltwater tank, and since they were born they have doubled in weight. the shark ray is a rare species, and getting them to breed successfully is quite an accomplishment. >> this is the first time shark ray pups have been born under professional animal care. this is the second time that we' ve had shark ray pups here at the newport aquarium. mark: because breeding shark so challenging, these pups will be studied for a long time. you can check out mama at the newport aquarium. sweet pea is swimming with her friends again after giving birth last month. plans are moving forward for a major transformation of a local park. the renovations at ziegler park got a boost after a generous gift from the kantor family. the local philanthropists are putting $.5 million into the park. groundbreaking
