sharon murch is joining us. her daughter, michaela was kidnapped in 1988. sharon, as you've watched this unfold, is it eerily similar to what happened to your daughter? >> well, yes, there are a lot of similarities between jaycee's kidnapping and michaela's kidnapping. the cases have intersected in the investigations over the years because of those similarities. and when jaycee was found alive, my first thought was, please, god, let michaela be with her. >> and, of course, we know that she wasn't with her. has there ever been an arrest or an active suspect in the case of michaela? >> there have been a number of suspects. the police have investigated over 13,000 leads in the last 20 years, but there have never been any arrests. >> do you still hold out hope that she's alive? >> i do still hold out hope that she's alive. one of the neighbors of the garrido's several years ago reported that there were girls living in the backyard and they reported that there were not three girls living in the backyard, but five girls. so that leaves two unaccounted for. and i'm

also with us, sharon murch. her daughter was kidnapped from a parking lot about 21 years ago. kara, what is the latest on this investigation and especially that bone fragment that was found? >> reporter: well, this is an investigation that continues to unfold and to grow, as you mentioned, investigators now looking at whether phillip garrido could possibly be connected to other abductions of children, something that took place back in the 1980s, as well as to a string of rape that is took place and murders that took place in the 1990s. in that instance, many of the women were prostitutes and many of their bodies were found near a park. garrido worked close to that park. you also mentioned the bone fragment that had been found. for about the past four days, police have conducted an exhaustive search, both of garrido's property. and if we pan over, you can see the property adjoining. for a while, that property was vacant and garrido acted as a caretaker. he had full access to it. police brought in cadaver dogs and searched both properties. they towed away trailers full of eviden
