hi, melissa. >> hi, sharrie, brian. we like that timing, the pope exits just in time for his departure we've got some showers that we are tracking as the week wears on. a fair amount of cloud cover overhead breaks in those clouds to get our numbers up into the 80's. 82 in philadelphia, 78 in new york city, 81 for washington, d.c. also in richmond. you probably noticed a difference today in the dewpoint, the humidity definitely coming up from where it was yesterday. we have a 66-degree dewpoint in the city. 71-degree dewpoint there in richmond, virginia. that is a very oppressive air mass overhead to our south. here's the water vapor imagery. it tracks the moisture in the atmosphere. any time you see golds or yellows that's an indication of drier air but two tropical pieces of energy we're tracking one over the gulf of mexico one in the atlantic, this will be impacting our weather as the week wears on. so, we'll talk about what we can expect for the rest of tonight and for the week ahead. a spike in the humidity, you've

"action news"'s sharrie williams is here with the full story. >> yeah, jim, city officials are really trying to help calm the concerns and fears of the residents. in the meantime the heroic actions of this man ma who was stabbed to death are now being recognized nationally and today we are hearing from a witness who watched all of it play out. new castle county mounted patrol officers were out in force in rodney square today in the wake of the stabbing death of 27-year-old thomas cottingham. this was the scene monday night where cottingham was stabbed to death while trying to stop a man from attacking a young woman and her baby. dart bus driver renaldo epps witnessed the incident. the woman fled onto his bus. cottingham helping her with the stroller. >> he was explaining to the assailant you don't know her. leave her alone. at that point the gentleman then stabbed mr. cottingham in the throat right there in front of the door. >> reporter: epps called 911 as people sought shelter on the bus to get away from the horrific attack. he was given the department of transportation challenge me

. >> reporter: well sharrie, it's really hot, a tough day for kids here in northeast high school, some classrooms here do have a.c. but even there it was warm inside because of all the students inside of those classrooms, so staying focused on the first day of class was a challenge. the summer vacation season 2015 is behind us now but fall does not begin for two more weeks. >> the first week of school is warm for us historically. especially when you consider that most public schools do not have air conditioning, we are asking the classrooms to open the windows when they don't have air conditioning and put on fans and actually take it easy. we spoke with a whole bunch of students who say they don't need coaxing to take the advice, it was very hot. >> it was hard to focus, and sweating and trying to write stuff down it's hard. >> northeast high is among a few city schools that has a.c. in some classes but the teenagers say that with this heat the difference was nominal. >> some classes had air conditioner, but it was not really good because there was so many kid in there, when are you in

on the roads. >> lets head live to autumn marisa in for matt pellman in the traffic center. >> hi sharrie and brian, we see the storms pop up, they are causing slow going on the roadways, we see ponding and we are seeing low visibility and reduced speeds and some cars are quickly pulling over to the shoulder. currently right now we are dealing with an accident on the schuylkill expressway this is in the westbound lanes at 30 and street station taking out the right hand lane and back to passyunk, the schuylkill expressway is looking clear now and about an hour ago we had a storm on the schuylkill and nice high speeds across the region, where you see the lower speeds is where you see the storms popping up. be careful on 202 and 422 as well as the pennsylvania turnpike, lincoln drive is closed between kelly and rittenhou rittenhouse. taking a look at 95, the northbound lanes of 95 were flooded earlier between the vine street expressway and allegheny, that is since cleared out the way but as we see storms move through again we can expect to see the flooding again. we'll keep an eye on things
