shatner, thank you very much for being here. don't want to be an alarmist at all because you still have government functions as it relates to public health that are continuing, right? specifically when it comes to the flu outbreak. what's the biggest impact of the shutdown? >> yeah, that's exactly right, hallie. the flu outbreak surveillance. that is the tracking of this outbreak across the country so that hospitals and private doctors can plan, that's continuing. however, there are a lot of routine functions at the cdc that have either been turned off or slowed down and postponed. that's happened to me today we have two cdc calls that have been postponed. so things are slowing down. not an acute problem, but the longer it goes on the more uncomfortable we all become. >> the national institutes of health say they're not going to be able to enroll new patients in clinical trials but care for current patients they say will continue. what does that mean if you are somebody either looking to or in a clinical trial? >> so here we are
