i don't know if you could watch and listen to that from eric shawn. he laid out a strategy now that actually could get some things paid. what do you make of that and do you think likely trump is going to need a payment strategy at this point? >> it seems like it. but even without that, harris, this is a big day for the democrats campaign against donald trump. we can't forget that even as we talk through how can trump pay this and all that. i was thinking a lot about my time on the court of appeals in virginia. i clerked there for two years. i left that court with a pretty strong respect not just the rule of law but a confidence in the system for two reasons. one, irrespective of their political leanings the judges tried to get the decisions right. secondly and equally important they were also concerned about the appearance of fairness. it is this lack of even seeming to care about fairness that i've been watching in these cases against donald trump in new york and i am concerned as a lawyer. i think the fact that speaks directly to that is why hasn't

shawn, we understand about 10% of voters have returned their ballots in early voting. it will be interesting in this primary season to see if people actually line up today. >> reporter: hey reed, good morning. yeah, that was one of the earlier figures that we got just this morning. we are being told that that number is likely going to get updated to a little over 15% today going into primary day. but there are some concerns that turnout will be even lower than what they first estimated so they are going to continue to make that final push to get folks to turn in those ballots or come in and vote in-person. they have done quite the effort here decorating inside the headquarters and of course making sure that folks have both a secure election and again getting as many eligible voters out to cast their ballot. so we saw for ourselves some of the preparations happening here in santa clara county late last week. they have hired 2,000 temporary workers to help them run the operation across 104 voting centers and those opened saturday and continued operating through today. th

shawn chitnis shows us how workers are racing to count all those ballots. >> reporter: i'm shawn chitnis in san jose. we are here at election headquarters for santa clara county. they have opened up their voting centers across town with over 100 locations, where they could vote in person or turn in their ballots. they have until 8:00 p.m., working hard for the last few weeks and the last several days to make sure they have all their operations in place including language aids to help those who are voting in santa clara county and, of course, make sure they can process all those ballots in an effective and secured way. turnout is looking to be 60% into primary day. they are hoping to see that go up. they estimate that turnout to be under 40%, below average, but they believe they can still try to get out to vote by encouraging more people to show up and turn in those ballots in person or by mail. >>> well votes are still coming in across the country on this super tuesday. no surprises here. biden already projected to win vermont, virginia, and iowa. >> former president trump protected the
