four of your losses came from a very, very blue state, new york, including your colleague shawn patrick maloneyight make the difference between winning and losing control. >> that's right. well, let me first say shawn patrick maloney did an outstanding job as the chair of the democratic congressional campaign committee. he and the team that he assembled deserve a great deal of credit for keeping us with a path. i'm sorry about his loss. it's a big loss to the congress and the country. but i do want to salute president biden for his campaigning, president obama, all of it raising the urgency of the election and the awareness that people must vote and that shea shouldn't listen to those who say this is a forgone conclusion because of history, but it's about the future and get out there and vote. >> what happened in new york do you think? >> here is what i always say. as a former chair of the california democratic party. you have to take every district -- you cannot make sweeping over dlooe views the day after the election, within the time of counting the vote. every district at a time. people ove

that is shawn patrick maloney, the chair of the dccc. the dccc had a historically incredible night. ironically, the chairman loses in his own district. huge margins outside where the districts are. so that is the biggest single blow democrats have taken so far has been in new york state. the bottom line, there are 16 democratic held districts that were republicans have now flipped. that is smaller than people were expecting going in. where we would be right now, a number that is bigger than many were expecting is the democrats so far flipped six republican seats. what are republicans targeting and hoping to win that are democratic held right now? where else could republicans get gains? again, i think a couple things jump out on this list. first of all, look how many are in california. this is the thing with california. it is limited results that we'll see right now. its going to be in many cases weeks until we get clarity in some of the races. what democrats need to do is defend every seat i'm showing you. the 13th district which is purely created. they need julia brown in the 26. t

that man is congressman shawn patrick maloney of new york. thanks so much for joining us.biden won your district, the hudson valley area of new york, by ten percentage points. but your constituents seem to express concerns not just about democratic races nationwide but your own seat in deep blue new york. how did the campaign arm you oversee get into this position where you're defending so many seats that i would think would be strong democratic districts? >> well, let's calibrate that a little bit. we've always had competitive seats in the hudson valley. i had to beat a republican to come to congress. it's not a surprise to me that this is a competitive part of the world. so, we're going to do what we always do, go out and make our case based on a record of getting real results. and we've always known this was going to be a competitive cycle. my pgoodness, it's the first midterm of a new presidency. but we're going to go out and we're going to win these seats and we're going to hold this majority because there's a lot at stake. >> i don't know anyone who thinks you're goi
