welcome back at 10. 30 i'm jim lokay and i'm shawn yancy, what better way to celebrate fourth of july than on the national mall. there were thousands upon thousands of people here earlier but the crowds disbursed very quickly after the fireworks. than around at this point. we'll give you a look at the show. it was absolutely great. things went off without a hitch. there was some questions about what the weather might do, but it stay nice and dry tonight. also going on the capital fourth concert performers by the beach boys, trace add skins, the blues brothers, john stamos. what better way to celebrate our nation's 241st t birthday. back to you. we have good news for anyone out late celebrating the fourth of july. don't take metro, it's going to stay open 30 minutes. space is limited. keep the large bikes off the trains. nearly 350,000 people were sworn in as us citizens as 65,000 gatherings around the country. they took it at national parks and mu selling fireworks ups one was actually at mount chill oh, the founding jefferson. we did have some rain out there early on tonight. now you

thousands packed the capital mall to cap off a day i'm shawn yancy and i am jim lokay celebrating in style. fox5's lindsay watts was in the center of it all. she's on the mall tonight she joins us live. they're still out there tonight. there are still a few people left behind jim and shawn. as you know, this is the place to be for fourth of july. people come from all over the nation and really all over the world to be here. and not too longing a there were thousands upon thousands of people out here, but as is the casey think every year as soon as the fireworks are over people are getting out of here quickly. i literally saw people running across the run as the finally was going on. maybe i saw a few people rushing to get home. there were obviously a lot more people here not so long ago. a great fireworks show. we'll give you a look everything really went perfectly this year. if you remember, last year it was a lot more rainy and cloudy, so it was kind tough to see the fireworks at some points, but tonight we definitely got a much better show, nice clear skies. even though the weathe

"fox5" lindsey watts is live on the scene with the latest details. lipcy. >> reporter: sarah, shawn, we're here 29 and eary streets in southeast. this is where police say a driver hit a bicyclist and then just kept ongoing. we'll give you a closer look at the bike right now. you can see the condition. this is a very serious acc accident. the bike here in the roadway along with a shoe, a baseball hat, we think may be some debris from the vehicle that hit the bikeist. we will show you video from what we favorite rivd. the cyclist was taken to the hospital and i got off the phone with d.c. police spokesman. he did not have any update on the condition of the bike riders but we know police are treating this as a serious accident. it happened around 6:15 ton tonight. so this intersection has been blocked for about four hours now. investigators have been out here blocking the intersection and they have been taking pictures of this crash scene. the maj

i'm jim lokay, that's shawn yancy, our area is still under a flash flood watch tonight. let's get right to gary mcgrady. >> that's right. just so you know we're still under the flash flood watch, but the weather service has actually whittled down a little bit of this. back out to the west they've taken parts of it down but you can still see most of the area this evening underneath this flash flood watch. i think there's still the potential that we could have rain. we've had so much rain already. primarily south of d.c. could potentially cause some problem and rain is in the forecast during the overnight hours and at least through parts of tomorrow as well. this still in effect until 2 a.m. let me show you what's out there now. we have complex thunderstorms down to the south o eastern sections of charles county. that is kind of moving to the east and to the southeast over the last several hours big thunderstorms running down towards southern maryland. matter of fact, a few tornado warnings came from this cluster of storms which is well down into southern maryland. there w

. >>> i'm shawn yancy, police arrested the driver they believe pulled the trigger. >> paul wagner joins us live from the scene with the story. paul? >> reporter: tony and shawn, alexandria police apparently got very lucky when someone got the tag of the suspect vehicle and the tag was tracked to a man named earnest stick el of mechanicsville maryland, his vehicle was recovered in st. mary's county and maryland state police say he actually walked into the frederick barracks earlier today, and turned himself in. how he got from st. mary's county to frederick still a mystery at this point. this is the intersection where we believe it took place, alexandria police say that the road rage incident began on the beltway near the eisenhower avenue exit and the vehicle that was shot, the woman's vehicle, in which she was driving, actually ended up in this intersection here behind now, here is what alexandria police had to say about it earlier today. >> this morning, at 7:56 a.m., patrol officers responded to a shooting at the intersection of eisenhower and claremont avenue. we believe the shootin

thanks for joining us tonight i'm tony perkins >> i'm shawn yancy, take a look at the damage yourself. the tornado carved two mile path of destruction on the eastern shore right near stevensville around 1:30 this morning. >> it destroyed homes and tore down trees and power lines. at the height of the storm, thousands of people lost power. that number is now down to less than 1,000. >> fortunately no one was killed. fox 5 marina marraco begins the team coverage in stevensville with the latest. >> reporter: a night without power for much of this area, we're standing just a few stevensville. and this is exactly where that tornado ended. now, this was an ef 2 tornado confirmed by the national weather service with estimated maximum winds of 125 miles per hour, it was a fast moving tornado. it spanned two miles and four minutes. very fast in time and you can see just up the road there, there's a sign there that says restricted access. that for much of the day has been cut off by maryland's state police. which should now the lead law enforcement agency managing. and inside that's the neighbo

i'm shawn yancy. >> and i'm tony perkins. a speed camera will be watching for you starting today. the camera is on 495 in prince george's county near the suitland road bridge. lindsay watts is live there now. lindsay? >> reporter: if what we've seen tonight is any indication, there are going to be a lot of tickets from these speed cameras. the speed limit here is 55 miles per hour and the cameras only get you if you're going 12 over or more. you can camera how fast passing vehicles are traveling. no speeders at this time but we have seen a lot of them. expect to see this on this section of the beltway for the next three years while the suitland road bridge replacement project is under way. there's some flashes for you. we'll show you some video from earlier tonight. a flash of the camera comes with a $40 ticket in the mail. it's 12 over the speed limit or higher. since the system is new here on the beltway there is a grace period from now through august 6th. come august 7th, if you see the flash, be ready to pay up. during the course of the suitland road bridge replacement project

i'm shawn yancy. >> and marina marraco in for tony. what's more horrifying is the suspect is hiv positive. fox 5's lindsay watts is learning new details tonight. lindsay? >> reporter: this is where carlos deangelo bell is being held without bond. at this point police have identified 10 possible victims, middle school-aged boys, all of them now have to be tested for hiv. investigators say so far two have been tested and found not to be infected. police want you to take a good look at bell because they do believe there could be additional victims. police say middle school boys were the primary target of 30-year-old carlos deangelo bell. he's accused of using his position as a school aide and coach to mow less kids and make child pornography. >> some of the included graphic images of bell sexually assaulting victims. some of the crimes appear to have been committed on school property and others at his home in waldorf. >> reporter: bell's neighbors tell us they saw kids in and out of his home but it didn't raise suspicion. >> he said hi an

i'm tony perkins >> i'm shawn yancy. the city is taking a closer look at the hiring following a district employee >> krysten leon pressed the mayor for answers on why this man was hired. she joins us with why they say his is a case that slipped through the cracks. >> reporter: that's right, tony and shawn if you search adam herry son bryant's name on the dc sex registry, you'll find he was convicted of quote travel to engage in latest schedule conduct. and enticing a child. that's what we found. this man properly veteraned before hired by the city special having access to young people's information, we sat down with district leaders to find out. this is adam bryant, according to the washington city paper, he was hired by the department of general services back in february. and was just recently fired once his criminal history resurfaced. and in case you're wondering, that department is the hub for other local government agencies like dc fire and rescue, metropolitan police department and parks and recreation. >> i don't

thanks for joining us, i'm shawn yancy >> i'm lauren demarco. tions come as a shock to some parents. paul is live with the story. paul? >> reporter: shawn and lauren, we o case last night when a concerned citizen called our newsroom to alert us to the charges. the allegations has been how the there now for well over a year. what we understand when we looked into this is that no information was put out by the charles county schools and no information was put out by the sheriff's office. yet, this was a public record inside the courthouse and it's been that way since at least january. what we know is that ronald wells, who's a scientist teacher at lackey high school and now on paid administrative leave is accused of abusing two of his students inside a closet in the classroom. this is a photo of ronald wells taken in 2014 when he was teaching science at lackey high school. it was featured in a newsletter distributed by charles county schools. according to the documents filed in court, a 17-year-old student told police on his birthday in april of la

i'm shawn yancy and i'm tony perkins.afternoon that a call went out for a shooting inside this building here at 1100l street northwest. we're at 11th and l northwest. what we understand from d.c. fire and ems the secret service called to say in the thigh. they didn't need the d.c. police department. they were going to handling it, but all they needed was an ambulance to transport someone to the hospital. let's show you a little bit of video that we shot earlier today. from our understanding this person was not taken to a trauma center, but was taken to a nearby hotel again shot in the thigh. we do not know at this point who this person is, whether this was an accidental shooting, but the secret service is investigating at this point. we know that inside this building the directly says it is the department of justice civil rights division. that's what's on the directory. however, when you go onto the secret service website it says it is the field office. but there's nothing independent side to indicate that is what is in t
