. >> let's go right now to nbc's raf sanchez, who is at the sheba medical center in tel aviv, which is preparing to treat the hostages. they'll be doing examinations and the like. so talk about anything happening right now at the hospital, ralph. what do you know? >> yeah. alex. so this is one of the biggest hospitals in the tel aviv area, and it is the staff here who have been given the task of caring for these three young women who just an hour or so ago emerged from gaza. romi gonin, doron steinbrecher and emily demari. and we are expecting potentially any minute now to start to hear the roar of the rotor blades as an israeli military helicopter arrives here carrying those three women, they will be landing at a helipad not that far from where we are here, and it will be ambulances that will drive them right past. and you may be able to see behind me. alex, there is plastic sheeting that has been erected by the authorities at this hospital, and that is to protect the privacy of these three women who have been through 471 days of captivity as they arrive here. this is the first step o

also there, nbc's raf sanchez at the sheba medical center.o, raf, tell us what happens next for these women. and now what? less than one day in how precarious overall is your sense of the status of this ceasefire? >> so, alex, there are two main threats to this ceasefire, which is just about 11 hours old at this point. the first is that it breaks down during phase one, which we are in right now. this phase is expected to last for six weeks. 33 hostages due to come out. and this phase nearly fell apart before it even began. it was supposed to begin at 8:30 a.m. local time this morning. hamas did not release the names of these three female hostages, and so israel continued its strikes inside of gaza until 11:15 a.m, when those names were provided and the cease fire did go into effect. between those two times, 19 people were killed in gaza, according to local authorities. there. those are people killed in the very final minutes of this conflict before the cease fire came. so there is a danger if hamas doesn't release hostages, if fighting breaks

. >> let's go to nbc's ralph sanchez, who once again is just by the sheba medical center there in telviv. so the good news, we saw it thanks to the video you showed us at the tail end of that caravan, the three israeli hostages arriving there. talk about the recovery they're going to face and the length of time you expect it to endure. >> it is going to be a long recovery, alex. so when the first group of hostages came out of gaza back in november 2023, these were people who had been in captivity for some 50 something days. these three young women, romy gonin, emily demari and lauren steinbrecher, who just literally a few minutes ago drove past us here into the sheba medical hospital behind me. they have been in captivity for 471 days, and now they have been free for about five hours. we've been talking to medical professionals throughout the day about the unbelievably complex and protracted recovery that they have ahead of them. i'll give you just a couple of examples of specifics that these doctors are thinking about when they are treating people who have been hostages for so long.

and as the sheba medical center announced, they don't have immediate medical needs.hat is life threatening. and that's very relieving to hear. now, today and the next day, they will have full assessment. you know, nutritional assessment and vitamin deficiencies and their bodily systems, together with their mental health. you know, we don't know what is their conditions in terms of their ability to function like the delicate issues of using their their fingers, as we saw, emily damari lost two fingers and their speech because maybe they were not allowed to speak. so we know from the previous hostages that the journey is long. it needs to be very professional, very supportive, and it will may take life long recovery to find the new. themselves after they have been dehumanized by the hamas. now we need to help them become humans again. it's also for the family. the recovery is also for the families that were fighting for so long. now can finally start the process of recovery. but again, i'm telling you, it cannot be complete without returning all the hostages back home

the sheba medical center, just outside of tel aviv. and you know, one thing that's important to note about the location where we are reem, is where that nova music festival was held, where rami jenin, who we expect to emerge from captivity today after more than 15 months. that is where she was taken hostage. she was also shot and wounded that day as she was as that attack unfolded, and was then taken to gaza and has been held in captivity since then. so, so certainly some symbolism there in the fact that she will taste her first moments of freedom right near the site where she was taken hostage over 15 months ago. we also know, of course, that emily damari and lauren steinbrecher, both from kibbutz kfar aza, also not very far from where we are now. they are also expected to emerge. we're just seeing one of the helicopters lifting off again. now, dana, i'm not sure if it's just repositioning perhaps does not appear to be fully, fully lifting off yet. but but this situation is very, very dynamic. and that's one of the things that we have
