our team coverage begins with storm team meteorologist sheena parveen. >> sheena just receed latest advisoryrom the national hurricane center. what does it say, sheena? >> it's not looking too different from before. we didn't expect it to change too much. computer models are agreeing. it's going to take a north turn into the week and then it's going to be impacting part of the state of florida. that still has yet to be determined. here's a look at irma from the puerto rico radar. you can see the rain and it's still a very, very big hurricane. the center of it is nearing the turks and caicos right now. it's going to stay on the path to florida going through the next couple of days. mass winds 180 miles an hour. expected to be a major hurricane even as we go into saturday morning between cuba and the bahamas. that would leave this over very warm water. favorable for it to stay a major hurricane as it impacts the state of florida. the entire state is in the cone. so it's not yet clear on where this thing is going to be hitting. we'll be tracking it. more updates throughout the day. we'll talk m

sheena is live at cox farm in centreville this morning.ist chuck bell and a look at what we can expect today. hey, chuck. >> good morning. hurricane maria. still a powerful category 3 storm. just north of the dominican republic now. it's going to continue to be a problem across the caribbean for a couple of days. keep that in mind if you have travel plans down there. it could seriously impact especially the southern bahamas towards the turks and caicos. there's maria now. you can tell by looking at it, this is a powerful storm. it's still a category 3 storm with 115 mile per hour sustained winds near the core of the storm. the track over time is to take it near the turks and caicos islands and heading towards tuesday next week, there's bermuda right there. somewhere between the outer banks and bermuda making that all-important recur va'a tur back into the open waters of the atlantic. we'll keep a close eye on that. temperatures in the 60s and 70s. today's high up near 88 degrees. sheena. feels like a continuation of summertime. >> yeah, ch

good morning, chuck. >> good morning, sheena. video of tampa bay with all the water blown out to sea. they had dry land in the middle of parts of tampa bay and near the shoreline there. the complete opposite has happened. no longer an offshore wind, now howling on shore wind has brought flooding back into tampa bay with some 8 to 10-foot waves on top of the high water. so this is probably the worst case scenario for tampa here early this morning. the heaviest of the rain now has moved up into parts of southern georgia and northern florida. the heavy rain shield will migrate northbound towards the atlanta area. atlanta, a lot of flights changed there. keep in mind, there could be a lot of significant flight delays today as that tropical moisture goes up. the first of that moisture goes towards memphis before it comes to us. we'll have showery weather mid to late week. we'll update that part of the forecast coming up. but >> might have an issue on the george washington parkway. at this point, park police officers saying everybody b

take a look at the screen. >>> sheena parveen is here.now you've been closely watching the track of irma. there's updates coming in the next hour. >> we just got the new 5:00 a.m. advisory. sometimes we get lucky and it comes in early. we just got the 5:00 a.m. update. it is down to a category 4. it's not a cat 5 anymore. it doesn't matter, though. this is really powerful. wind at 155 miles an hour. it's moving over shallower water, approaching shallower water, i should say. but still a very strong storm. it's north of cuba. still bad news for florida. that would mean the center stays over warm water in the mid to upper 80s. that's the water temperature. early sunday or late saturday it should take that north turn. early sunday it moves into south florida potentially category 4 hurricane. this is going to be bad for the florida keys and miami as well. some of the florida keys with the storm surge could be covered by the water. then it would move inland the spine of florida, the interior section could still remain a major hurricane because

. >> an update from storm tea meteorologist sheena parveen. what is the storm doing now. >> it's over puerto rico the center as a category 4 hurricane. we'll zoom in here now. the eye of the hurricane as it moves over puerto rico, you see it does not become as obvious but it is right over the island here heading out soon, but the winds are expected to stay very high as this thing re-emerges in the atlantic and eventually moves up near the bahamas. a category 4 the latest advisory, the 11:00 a.m. advisory from the national hurricane center. winds 140 miles per hour, dropped a bit, but this is still an extremely strong hurricane. it's moving to the northwest at 12 miles an hour. picked up a little bit of speed. as we go into the weekend it will be east of the bahamas taking the north turn into the atlantic and then by monday, could be close to the north carolina coastline or it could be heading out to sea. typically and historically the storm stays east of the bahama has a better chance of saying at sea. we're far away and we'll be tracking this

let's go to sheena parveen with more on irma's track. sheena? >> good morning. an up from the 5:00 -- update from the 5:00 advisory. winds sustained at 155 miles per hour. it has weakened a little bit. it's still a huge threat to the state of florida as we go into saturday and sunday, it will be taking that turn to the north over very warm waters here. it's going to be expected to stay a major hurricane. moving into south florida, the keys and south florida as far as storm surge and high winds are concerned, moving inland near tampa by monday morning, possibly still as a hurricane. it's so large, it will impact both coastlines of florida. it will move inland and the remnants towards tennessee. this is a huge storm. about 400 miles wide. it's going to cover the entire state of florida. coming up in a bit, we'll talk about what florida may be expecting locally and speaking of that, somara has a loo your weekend forecast. >> you know what, this weekend is shaping up to be a nice one. in fact, we can head out to the beach maybe. let's look at what we can expect. the
