joining me now, sheila jackson lee, who has introduced a bill combat foreign election interference.feel like mueller's statement today gives any new urgency or push to the kind of legislation you are proposing? >> chris, absolutely. first of all, let me say that the work that democrats have been doing and doing and doing and doing by multiple number of committees was validated with the loudest of resounding sound, and that was the sound of mr. mueller's voice. the tape that just ran and said that the american people should take notice, any process that holds the president accountable and legislation has to have a political element to it. and that is the voice of the american people. my legislation, hr-2353, is something that can be passed immediately and hopefully, not quashed into the senate graveyard that most bills have gone, that this would go forward. this bill is simple. it says that if you have been contacted by foreign adversary or anyone as was evidenced by the report in volume one, it was overwhelming. it was like a gusher. it was like a tsunami of contacts with the trump

takano: at this time, madam speaker, i'd like to yield three minutes to my good friend, sheila jackson lee from the state of texas. the speaker pro tempore: the gentlewoman from texas is recognized. ms. jackson lee: i thank the chairman very much. and for yielding. i thank the sponsor of this legislation for really tapping into something that every single ember must face with their veterans and certainly those who have been out of the military for a period of time and then all of our new veterans who are coming in from some of the more recent conflicts that we have had and wars that we have had. just about a week or so ago, i was meeting with veterans and talking about, from a certain battalion, that had flown in to houston, to share with us their concerns about a state of mind and the increasing amount of suicides among veterans. but in addition to those conversations and ones that i've had, the idea of a veterans' economic opportunity and transition administration and the undersecretary of veterans' economic opportunity and transition of the department of veterans affairs to oversee

i also thank my colleague and co-sponsor from houston, congresswoman sheila jackson lee, to whom i now yield one minute. the chair: the gentlewoman is recognized for one minute. allow me to e: thank my very important sponsor of this amendment and as well our republican colleagues for their leadership. we are underwater in houston. we are concerned about puerto rico and support the underlying bill. but if this amendment passes, we will be able to help all of those who have been impacted by disaster. 203,000 homes, 12,700 were destroyed, $4 billion is important dollars, and to have that delay really hinders those who are suffering now. you can imagine that we will be going home to overflowing bayous and homes and people that are in fear. therefore, this amendment, particularly in the shortening of the time, recognizes that disasters means emergencies, and people in emergencies are desperate and they need help. so i am delighted to support this amendment and will join with the gentlelady as we move forward on improving how fema responds as well to these disasters and how we can work furth
