so, it is not just dealing with chairman shelby. i had a number of conversations with my senate counterpart. i'm very optimistic there are a number of things we can work on. one thing we have to deal with is the sheer weight, cost, ambiguity of the washington redtape burden, particularly on our community financial institutions. again, since the passage of dodd-frank, the big banks have gotten bigger. the small banks have gotten fewer. consumers are seeing free checking go away. they are seeing the dreaded monthly fees credit cards come back. consumers have been harmed by many aspects of this. i know that i can work with chairman shelby on this. the unfortunate reality is that, for some democrats dodd-frank is now viewed as sacred text. it is viewed as something chiseled on stone that came down from mount sinai. get on the house side in the last congress, we -- yet on the house side in the last congress, we passed a number of bipartisan bills, some of which were modest clarifications of dodd-frank but they all died in the senate. the

more now with senator richard shelby. let's talk about the president's proposal and what you felt really did not work already and what he's proposing already. what specifics struck you? >> first of all maria i believe instead of helping the middle class, he's attacking the middle class. one, capital gains, he wants to run those up. that's a lot of people in for the long haul. republicans want to lower that. he's also proposed taxes on the savings account where middle class families are saving money to send their children to college later in life. he's proposed a tax there. this is an attack on the middle class. it's not helping the middle class. most the middle class want to be left alone. they want to not be overtaxed and overregulated. he's doing the opposite. >> a lot of his stuff is rhetoric and not going anywhere. a lot of taxes as i said last week, they're dead on arrival. i believe they're really dead. >> if it's all rhetoric why waste the time you know, triggering this conversation, you know having a national conv

shelby holliday joins us from st. louis. it is toasty warm. maybe not so much. what is the byte?lly warm out here. today's byte is 1121, the percentage growth of tech startup funding in st. louis making st. louis the fastest-growing tech city in the united states. that is according to cb insights. i'm not saying st. louis is the next silicon valley. all you people in northern california can cool your jets. there are a few reasons why st. louis is a great promising place. number one, there is plenty of talent. it's relatively inexpensive. the toasted ravioli is a big hit out here. there are a lot of young people out here and schools like wash u., st. louis university are very invested in entrepreneurship. the government is very committed to startup funding as well. there are a lot of incubators, a lot of accelerators. people say this could be the next big midwestern tech hub. it is on the list of tech hubs to watch. >> so is austin, new york, scottsdale. everyone wants a little silicon valley in them. why not? >> i was reading a tech blog. it said that v.c. wealth here is growing.

shelby what have you got? >> 7 million. the number of mobile transactions that starbucks stores every week. starbucks mobile has been huge. 13 million active users. mobile payments account for 16% of total tender at starbucks right now. digital innovation has become so important to this company that yesterday when howard schultz announced the new ceo he did not announce somebody with restaurant experience. he named tech industry leader kevin johnson as the number two executive. johnson previously led juniper networks. a 16 year veteran at microsoft. it goes to show how important the digital pushes for this company. >> really interesting. when they made this investment or partnership with square which they since backed away from, it shows they are trying new things. that's their goal is to push their own app. it is not just about payment. starbucks says it drives incremental sales. it is also about gaining loyalty. the reward program has done well. it also provides a platform for one-on-one marketing. they are reaching peopl

we focus on one number that tells a whole lot -- shelby holliday joins me with that number.dea what it is. what do you got? >> it's not a good number, it's $7.4 billion, which is how much jeff bezos lost in holdings after shares of amazon fell more than 22% in 2014. it was a company's worst year since 2008 marked by a particularly rough third quarter. shareholder showed a lack of support for his big spending and pouring money into everything from smartphones to television programming to drones. despite the bad year, he is still worth $28.6 billion and he currently ranks 20th on the billionaire index. i cannot say i feel too bad for him. >> he was still able to afford an uber on new year's eve. it is still trading 160 times earnings. >> it was the third quarter that was horrible. the fourth quarter is the best quarter of the year. >> they just love him last. 95% of my holiday shopping was on amazon. so he got some of my money. >> everyone i talked to still uses them. it's the first place they go to buy something. you don't see the lack of support. >> i am glad for both of you

shelby hawley joins me in studio. how could this impact football fans?> your hundreds of thousands of people packing into hotels restaurants, the stadium on sunday. you have seven confirmed cases of measles in the same area where the super bowl is being played. seven doesn't sound like a lot but measles is one of the most infectious diseases known to man. it is airborne. it is on surfaces. it is way more contagious than the flu. health officials are alerting people and saying this is a risk. i was on a cdc call yesterday and talking to arizona officials. they don't appear to be too worried because of the people coming to the game it is not likely this is a concentration of unvaccinated people. that gives them herd immunity. even if measles pops up, if you are vaccinated, you only have a 1% chance of getting measles. >> measles was virtually eliminated from this country in 2000. why are we seeing this resurgence? >> it all boils down to a trend called anti-faxing. you may have heard of it. parents are refusing to vaccinate their children. some are worried
