this is shelley federico's house. lincoln's gerald bliss took us to see shelley's former home, which remains vacant because it's now the focus of a lawsuit. there's a smell in this house. and i understand whether it's just general must. but there's a distinct -- >> yeah. that's just -- >> reporter: -- just heaviness in this house. no? you don't smell it? >> well, i do a bit. but -- >> reporter: we asked about the high levels of mold spores in shelley's test. >> there's been three other reports that have been completed. >> reporter: and what did they tell you about this house? >> they had low levels. >> reporter: lower levels than the report that i saw? >> yes. >> reporter: but cnn reviewed two of the mold reports. both of which confirmed significant levels of mold. lincoln could not share the results of its own independent test because it's being sued by military families. lincoln knew it was inheriting hundreds of older, poorly built homes. while bliss denies a systemic mold problem, he admits maintenance fell short.

thank you, shelley, for putting together this event. when i did a little bit of research, i found out that this woman was a force to be brought in -- to be reckoned with. she was a young woman who was full of passion and love, and life, she was going places. she had aspirations of being an attorney in serving in elected office. tragically, her life was ended at the tender age of 43. so, when i've thought about some of the common threads and qualities that annie and i shared, the one that stood out in my mind was passion. she was a passionate woman. passionate about being a community leader, about making changes in helping others, and being that voice for those who do not have a voice. when i think about emerge california and the work we are doing their to give more women -- women involved in the political process, i find that i also share the passion that she had. when i also think about some of the big issues that we are dealing with in our society today, i believe that the only way we are really going to see change is if we give women

shelley is just full of surprises. she is right. i just got back.rancisco is known worldwide as working locally and globally. we are on the move forward. family, where are you? -- emily, where are you? [applause] we have been partnering with the commission on women here from day one, and it has become a model globally. we convened some panels there. i moderated their panel, emily and the commission's panel. emily moderated the panel we did on merle and indigenous women, which was the theme of the un conference. everyone knows that you cannot do anything with those kinds of partnerships, without governmental and non- governmental women working together. we also did that with secretary clinton in september. she had her aipac conference. one of the meetings i had when i was on the east coast was in the secretary's office with water for foreign policy advisers who said they really need our help and following up the aipac conference with a non- governmental women's. we are pretty sure we will have a world conference on women. and xtech is to hold it here

and of course, shelley stokes hammond for a great piece. i wanted to embellish a few of the stories that shelley had spo spoken of. in particular, the congressional dining room incident of 1934. now oscar depriest was sworn in in 1929. the actual incident didn't take place until 1934. when that happened, lindsey warren, who was a democrat from north carolina, had mr. morris lewis, who is my great grandfather's secretary, and his son ejected from the dining room. now he had been eating there for five years already. and it was more of a political move by representative warren than anything else. but nevertheless it started a huge controversy. my great grandfather had been dining there and bringing my great grandmother in, my grandfather who is the tall gentleman to the left. and he had also befriended a porter who worked for the washington, d.c. transportation department. and he mentioned he was one of the darkest people he'd ever met and would bring him into the congressional dining room, a, because he was a friend, and b, because he wanted
