today, oakland mayor sheng thao is demanding answers as she fights off a recall. mayor thao released an open letter today calling on hedge fund billionaire philip dreyfus to explain why he's donated nearly a half a million bucks toward her recall. dreyfus, who lives in piedmont, is a partner at farallon capital management, which is invested in coal projects worldwide. however, it's not yet clear what his involvement is with that company. in the letter, mayor thao accuses him of working for coal interests within the city. oakland was previously involved in a legal battle with the developer that wanted to build a coal terminal at the oakland port. in 2016, the city blocked that developer and passed a ban on storage or handling of coal within city limits. earlier this year, though, a judge ruled the developer does have the right to deal with coal at the port of oakland. dreyfus has not publicly commented on why he supports the mayor's recall, and he has not yet responded to the mayor's open letter. there's an update for all of you macbook users. apple launched new mac
