they sent a letter to city leaders and the sheriff's office asking for nearly 300 more deputy sheriffs to be hired. the sheriffs association says deputies are being asked to work. 28 hours of overtime every week, which is 3 times beyond the limit set by cal osha, the union, own study in a letter written to san francisco mayor london breed, the union explained its findings saying, quote, with an average of just over 5 hours of sleep per 24 hours. deputies are facing serious risks to their health safety and beyond. the survey also found high rates of physical and mental problems among deputies, including high blood pressure, sleep apnea, depression symptoms and anxiety. we've reached out to the mayor's office for its response to the sheriffs association request. and we are waiting to hear back. keep you posted there. meanwhile, the city of san francisco is hoping to improve 9-1-1, response times by opening a new emergency dispatch center. the new facility was unveiled this morning on the second floor of the old 9-1-1, center along turk street. it features 55 brand-new workstations sent u

this is, as you mentioned, a growing concern for the sheriff's office. some of those injuries have resulted in serious injuries, some of those assaults, i should say, have resulted in serious injuries. that is why a lockdown went into effect over the weekend, and we still don't know if that lockdown has been lifted. but it went into effect at san francisco county jail number 2 on seventh street and county jail number 3 in san bruno. all visits, programs and services were canceled, because the san francisco sheriff's office says there has been an increase in assaults on deputies and jail staff by inmates. the sheriff's office is investigating the cause of these attacks, and whether or not they are correlated. the president of the san francisco deputy sheriffs association, the union that represents deputies, he says if you date back a week earlier, which would be march 24th, there have been nine assaults. and he says inmates are attacking other inmates, also. >> on april 12th it was like the worst day in my history of the department. you just felt like the
